Anyone know why there are bollards either side of the road for part of Henrietta street? Seems really odd and they don't seem to have much purpose other than preventing parking... Which is allowed either end of the bollards.

    Just wondering if anyone knew

think i read somewhere else on boards that they're filming something up there. Probably a period drama of some description so they're prob saving a car free spot on the street.

There are basements/coal storage areas beneath that could not take the repeated parking of a few tons on top of them.

The whole street is subsiding. Its terrible to think that Henrietta Street was once the most exclusive places to live in Dublin and now it has been let to age so badly. Its a dead street really, most building are for institutional use

ah that makes a lot of sense.

Henrietta street is on the up, considering before its current use it was tenaments

And before that it was an exclusive residence in the 18th century built by the famous Gardner estate. Its former inhabitants included many peers, members of parliament and judges.

If you are going to be smart you should know what you are talking about.

You're not the only one who knows the history of the street so the condescending attitude is unwarranted. My point was that worse things have happened to it and despite what condition it's in now, it's sure as hell better than it all being tenaments - which it was, hence, it is already on the up. Not to mention the fact that two of the buildings in worst condition have been tendered out for restoration.

    So cut the superiority.

That's interesting - didn't know that. It must be a problem on the centre part of the street as parking is permitted in other areas. (Here's a couple of pics from 2007).
