Hi all. Was putting junior to bed earlier tonight when the doorbell rang. So, in a hurry i ran down to the door. At the door was a decent enough looking bloke about 25 ish with a Dublin accent. He handed me two sheets of paper stapled together and asked me to read them. He was babbling on about something, but i wasn't listeniing as i wanted to get junior to sleep. Well, i skimmed through it and read the bottom of the first page which said something about him not being entitled to welfare etc. I turned over the sheet to find a few names with amounts of money marked beside them. He then said" Anything will do, even 50 cent". I then told him of my own plight and handed him back his sheets. Have i just seen the future of this country with people knocking on doors begging? I feel it for the bloke. He must be in a bad way to knock on doors? What do you all think?

You discovered by reading his list that people are giving him money proving that 'there's a sucker born every minute'.

I agree totally. No harm reading it though.

While you read the paper he is glancing over your house looking for things to rob at a later stage

He was casing your house so he can break into it.

Happened a friend of a friend of mine two weeks ago, plasma tv, money, jewelry everything stolen.

"Hi if I have an Irish accent I can tell people that I'm somehow not entitled to claim the dole and make them feel sorry for me."

    Yeah.

Ok - I'm sure he's not claiming the dole as well because he gave you a sheet of paper that said as much.

If you believe everything that's written on a sheet of paper handed to you at your front door then I have the deeds to a few prominent landmarks that you may be interested in buying for a very reasonable price.

There's no way he was unemployed if he can afford staples.

Door to door begging. Now that's service.

I would have asked him to mow the lawn before parting with my 50 cent.

Went to the cinema there tonight in Cineworld and just as the film ended and everyone was strolling out, I seen this polish (looking polish at least) girl walk in.

She had a tatty back pack and very worn looking jacket and looked sheepish, quite good looking though, but aren't most polish people.

Anyway, she went right up the back and as soon as the back row emptied she started to stuff the backpack up with half full bags of popcorn and whatever else she could find.

As I was left I glanced up and she was now just nervously checking the last few rows and shaking the drink containers to see if they were was any of them that contained some left over drink.

That stuff is bin bound anyway, so don't see a problem with it, just must be quite hard to have to do that in order to quench your hunger.

In saying that, isn't there some people who are not necessarily broke and who only eat stuff they can acquire for free, I'm sure I seen a docu where they were rooting trough bins yet then drove home in their 4x4s.

You're hardly one to condemn someone for concentrating on matters carnal, Joey the lips.
I understand that, in addition to playing a mean trumpet, you are Dublin's foremost lothario.

    Great plan.

Pay 10 euro in to a movie to get some free popcorn at the end.

Well, i saw you in the Commitments; 'lothario' is the only word that would suffice.
You had 'em all; Angeline ball, the tall darked haired one, the small dark haired one...
You even regaled a young lady, just prior to sexual congress, with the opening lines of The theme to Shaft; 'would ya stop talkin' shoite, joey' she said...but you could tell that she was impressed.

Well there's Freegans, who literally won't get anything unless it's free. I saw your man Baz Ashmany or whatever he's called, do a programme with one who eats things like roadkill for his dinner.
Wouldn't be my cup of tea now!

Sounds more like a pimp and prostitute type situation.

Perhaps i should have handed them a note as well...

I'm not entitled to welfare either. Mainly because I have a job.

You should have asked him why exactly he wasn't entitled to it.

I doubt she had €10 in quite awhile by the look of her.

Maybe it's a regular thing for her and she has an Unlimited card.

She was getting a lot more than popcorn also, half bags of what looked to be Maltesers or M&Ms.

She could also have bounced in.

Young guys from the flats have asked me for my cinema ticket a few times when walking out the side exit of Cineworld.

I take it they then would just go back in and say they where in already and forgot something.
