Google Streetview - Sligo

Basq

Just in case people didn't know, Google Street View is now live and has covered practically the whole country.

To use it:

• Go to http://maps.google.com
• Search for your house / area (e.g 'O Connell Street, Sligo')
• Click and drag the little orange man icon on the far right () onto any blue-outlined area on the street and you'll see a view from there.
• You can then rotate by clicking and holding the mouse, or click the white arrows on the road to move up/down the road.

Enjoy.. and report back any funny / humorous sights!

Its pretty cool alrite. Was trying to figure out when the shots were taken. Looks like last Janurary maybe as snow can be seen on Benbulben.

Havent found anything like this in Sligo yet

My tip to tell the time-frame..

.. go to the Gaiety and see what's showing and look up the films' release dates on IMDb.

From the cinema posters, I can see Funny People, District 9, Sorority Row, Miss March, Whiteout, Julie & Julia and Adventureland.

I can deduce from those that it was mid-late September 2009.

Good thinking, was wondering how to figure out the dates. I was actually going through Grange about a month ago and seen the car going through the village. I presume they must have several versions of every area

I have vague recollections of them being around in August last year (although it could've been Sept?!)
All I know is it was a scorcher of a day, which is clear from the pics outside my house, where my Da can be seen chatting with one of the neighbours....! It'll be nice for the homesick peoples abroad and the touristy types, and the nosey types.
Speaking of which, I should probably toddle off and try and see can I spot peoples I know who were dossing round town that day....

Google also offers a time warp in Sligo.

Drive past the top of O'Connell street and it's still a pedestrian zone (and bathed in sunshine) ...go down a bit and it's full of cars again, the trees have gone, the stupid bollards are up and ...yepp ...it's raining

Not sure what time if the year my area was done but there are pumpkins and witches on the windows of some of the houses :P. One of my neighbors is out watering some plants, when I click on to his house to get a better view he has disappeared...

I know it was also around in May 2009. I think it took quite some time and some multiple passes to get right. In some places the weather changes suddenly and also the leaves are at different stages.
It seems a bit more jumbled than other places as sometimes, instead of going where you want, it skips to another street and the next click is back on the right street. I've still spent half the weekend on it:D

I was surprised to see my house on street view, as I'm living very rural outside Ballymote (on a road off another road, off a local road, off a regional road - apart from summer home beside me, next door is 200m away). Judging by the Daffodils peeking up in the garden, it's springtime. Some plants which died last winter are still alive, so must have been spring 2009.

Yup, it was definitely spring ... you can see Communion dresses in the window of Mullaneys! So that would mean it was taken between January and April.

If you go up bridge street from the belfry and when you come to remax, all of a sudden you end up in the stephen street carpark.

The pictures seem to jump west by a block

I'm the same, the auld wans house is shown and it is off the beaten track yet my house is skipped and it is right in the town...

A section of the N17 in Ballinacarrow is missing between the turn off for Templehouse and the Halls crossroad junction.

they've even done in the bog road near me, and one of my neighbours is in it. face is blurred out but anyone local would know who it is. they've done the whole of the bog road though, all the way through.
lot of detail in it as well. would be really handy for tourists in the locality if they were lost to see where they are.

It does stop short though about a few hundred metres from the family home in Donegal.

Does anyone know if they are updating the pictures, house mate said he seen one of the cars last week, and seen it my self between Donegal town and Fundoran.
