    We had a great night at the inaugural Clare Business Excellence awards last night. Congratulations to the winners - we didn't win but at least have the knowledge we are officially the 2nd or 3rd most innovative business in Clare!

    More important than the awards themselves was the positivity in the room. Over 300 business people were forgetting about "Black Thursday" and talking about the opportunities for the future. 27 businesses had their stories presented on video and the one common denominator that struck me was that all had confidence for the future - realism, but confidence also.

    We picked up some new business and good referrals. All in all it was one of those rare nights when it felt good to be in business.

    heard it went well and that sarah newman from dragons den was very interesting telling about how she started out in business.
    Good to hear something positive in times like this

    I think she converted a few people who wouldn't have been fans alright. It was an interesting story - a long way from leaving school in Essex with 2 O levels - in dance and cookery! She demonstrated that anybody has the potential to be a successful entrepreneur. One key piece of advice was to recognize your own weaknesses and get help that covers those weaknesses, not just a clone of yourself.
