irish rail have brought out a promotional fare for students travelling dublin-galway and the following intermediate stations;Athenry, Wooklawn, Athymon and Ballinasloe.

but is is not of use to most students because it is a 5day return so if bought on sunday evening to travel to dublin for a week in college it can not be used on friday to get home! it must be used thursday at the latest:eek:

they might take more students off the busses with their promotions if they made them suitable for the customer base they are targeting:D

Student leaves college Thursday/Friday, buys ticket goes home, returns Sunday/Monday

    5 day return works fine

most students do stay for the full week so this ticket is useless to them as if they buy on sunday night they cant use it on the following friday and the trains on monday would not suit most who will have to be in early on monday.

yes so rather than buy it for Sun to college and Friday back home

use it Friday for home and Sun for back to college...

it then becomes valid and useful ticket

students do not have money on a friday for things like train tickets:) thursday late night clubs see to that. and the mammy can pay on sunday for the return as it is such a great deal but pretty much useless.

He gave birth to yet another moany post complaining about very little and when the obvious fail in his logic was highlighted came out with some general rubbish about students' lifestyles.

In my experience as someone who has sold and checked thousands of tickets from home-for-the-weekend students a large % will buy their returns on Fridays and I'd bet if it was going to save them a chunk of money most would happily do so.

Just wondering why they would limit it like they did, it doesn't really make any sense to do that when they would have been better offering a 7day return,

and nothing from that thread parsi:(
