there is a story in today's Metro, about a certain Claire Keane of Clarenbridge, who was dismissed after making a prank call to a patient at the nursing home, where she worked. she was subsequently dismissed , but awarded 25,000 for unfair dismissal.

can anyone throw more light on this?

Might be an idea to link to the story first rather than naming someone and saying something against them

How much do they want for the hay? :p

Employers must have badly messed up the dismissal process for that amount to be awarded to the fired employee.

and a hilarious one at that. almost as funny as when the students were banging on the doors of the elderly at night in bohermore.

it appears to be a shmaeful incident.

the local media seems to be ignoring it.

It's very hard to fire someone in this country. You hear cases of unfair dismissal every week, that doesn't necessarily mean the person didn't deserve to be fired, it may mean the the employer didn't follow the law to the letter regarding verbal and written warnings etc.

My mate had a seminar about firing people and he told me some horror stories he was told at it. They may be bullshít, dreamed up as examples, but I remember one was a girl working part time at a petrol station, who was caught red handed stealing and was promptly fired. She successfully sued the petrol station for a huge amount.
