Nearly 5000 posts (probably about 7500 YouTube embedded videos) in this thread, all showing up fine for me.

works for me too. what browser are you using op/do you think you're overdue a flashplayer updated?

  • Registered Users Posts: 83,206 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

no thats all up to date and has been reinstalled already. still no joy. The only thing the 2 PCs have in common is they are windows7-64 bit. Other than that they have no hardware in common.

    32-bit firefox: nothing
    32-bit IE: works
    64-bit IE: X-Placeholders

    damndest thing.

Something I've noticed lately is that the (what I like to call the...) embedding link doesn't work on Boards like it used to but the (what I like to call the...) URL link does. For example, these are from the same video:

    Embed link:

    URL link:

This is the difference between a embed link and URL link if you couldn't be arsed to quote my post and check:

uhm, still cant see either of those :o

Biggins can you see an embedded video here: http://gizmodo.com/5654062/nintendo-nes-dvd-player-reminds-me-how-much-i-loved-nintendo-and-dvds

May not be a vBulletin issue. Possibly one of the latest flash patches acting strangely

I went through a period of this, tried everything - updating Flas Player, checked anti virus for blocks etc. Turned out it was just a small add on to Firefox that I kept declining to add.

The former never worked and was never supposed to work. The latter is (currently) the only was to get YouTube to work.

    It's because you're doing it wrong. :)

If you're trying to embed this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK2tWVj6lXw

It has to look like this:

    [NOPARSE][/NOPARSE]

Don't put in the "embed code", that's not the correct one to use.

That's strange, it definitely used to work for me.

    I'm a Apollo Steep Ladle it didn't.

The code for that to work doesn't exist and didn't.

Perhaps you were thinking of another vBulletin site?

Nope, it did. And it was on Boards. I can can PM you some links if you'd like, wouldn't like you to think I'm a Conor-tist.

I know your the god here Conor, but I'm pretty sure it did used to work.

Personally I always take out the embedded bit, but I remember quoting posts and having the embedded part after it

    PM away.

If this is the result of someone leaving the "Allow HTML in posts" option turned on, then someone is going to have to be smacked.

That one that was PMed is one that works due to the benevolence of YouTube and their ability to work out what you mean when you send them junk.

    When you say:

    [NOPARSE][/NOPARSE]

it produces the following HTML (which is the embed code):

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123"></param&gt;
    <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="340" wmode="opaque"></embed></object>

    Now, if you say:

    [NOPARSE]
    " frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>
    [/NOPARSE]

you end up with something like this:

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"></param>
    <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/abc123&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="340" wmode="opaque"></embed></object>

The only reason that'll ever work is if you're lucky and YouTube parses all the extra junk and works out what you really mean.

There is absolutely no support in vBulletin for cleaning that up since all we have is a simple find-and-replace system for BBCODE.

EDIT: Also, when I eventually get the time to add support for other video embedding, anything not embedded using the correct method will probably get broken. If you want them to last, do them properly.

disabled addons to no joy; which still wouldnt help explain IE 32 showing and not 64.
