Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seeking RD Hanger Removal Advice

So I have a compact chainset (50/34) with a suitable RD. Foolishly, I didn't put much thought into buying an appropriate cassette and went for a 10 speed 11-27 ( a 11-23T which I've ordered should arrive next week). Anyhow, I'd been having trouble shifting up on to the 27T so I brought it to the LBS and asked them to have a tinker with it.

I picked it up last w/e. Cycled it for the brief journey home. I didn't shift through all of the gears (I was a little frightened of what might happen TBH).

I've digressed slightly. I was out on a short cycle this evening. Nothing strenuous. Suddenly the RD hanger snapped. The chain had been on the 3rd or 4th sprocket of the rear cassette and on the 34T of the chainset. As luck would have it, I'd already ordered a spare RD hanger which arrived earlier this week.

Now getting to my problem. I've removed the screws from what's left of the hanger but it seems to be pretty stuck where it is. I'd be reluctant to go the chisel and hammer approach? Any suggestions for removing it. The only thing which I've come up with is to superglue (I'd have to get some)the other bit of the hanger to it and maybe I'll be able to pull it off then.

I've attached photos to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Apologies for having gone on for a bit. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just use a flat head screw driver and place in the gap between the frame and hanger and gently wedge it off.

From the picture it looks like the screw thread is in the hanger, so screw in from the "wrong" side and wiggle it free with a pair of pliers puling on the screw head.

The gap is a lot smaller than it looks in the photos (lighting casting shadows) so I'd be a little reluctant but it might be a last resort.

Good suggestion however, even when I screw my spare hanger on to the broken hanger bit it doesn't seem to budge. It's as though it has been glued to the frame. I'm going to send an email off to Canyon to find out.
