Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Severe lack of AJ

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Also lack of Andy Carroll apparently.

    Benched

EDIT: Lack of Shay Given too.

EDIT again: Given IS on the bench. Official site had it wrong.

I have a feeling this will be an end-to-end cracking game. 2-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Krul; Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Gutierrez, Tiote, Barton, Ben Arfa; Nolan; Ameobi.

    Carroll on the bench

    why no Carroll?

seems retarded to go for a guy whose proven beyond a shadow a doubt that he is generally useless.

my thoughts exactly  would have Lovenkrands ahead of Ameobi. Workrate is far superior

Newcastle will miss Carroll in defensive situations

    (slight knock perhaps?)

Ameobi has shown as much as Andy Carroll in all fairness this season.

Ameobi has barely played..... (5 sub apps in the PL 2 starts in the LC) As mentioned above there is a lot more to Carroll than his attacking. He is immense for us in defense too.

Other than the hat trick against Villa he hasn't stood out that much at all. As much as he's a donkey I actually fancy an Ameobi goal today :pac:

Carroll didn't do much against Stoke to be honest and Ameobi was quite impressive against Chelsea.

No Carroll fecks up my fantasy football team too, not sure why Chris Hughton would go with Ameobi:confused::confused:

Usually the way with Ameobi, scores when you least expect. But he had 2 against chelsea so i think we will be waiting for the next one....

Dont know how much of Carroll you have actually seen. Hes done a hell of a lot more than the hat trick.... His workrate and distribution are very good. But maybe thats a discussion for later on in the season...

Fancy we'll struggle today, although we seem to do better against teams who attack us.... We struggled to break down Stoke and to a lesser degree Blackpool

1st part true, i would say Chelsea were awful in the LC (at the back)

Lol @ all the FFers ragging on about Carroll not starting. He hasn't been doing it in the last couple of games. Good idea to bench him and give Ameobi a run and it might buck Carroll up too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Ah ffs, David bloody Pleat is doing the punditry. Game ruined already.

dunno, from what i have seen of Ameobi in the last 10 years it rather have an off form Carroll. Was thinking the same about the the proverbial kick up the ars€ to Carroll though. Best to do it in a game where the odds are heavily against us i suppose. Might well be the case

    G'wan Nigel! F*ckin stuck in already :D

EDIT: On the replay it looks like a bad one from Ben Arfa's point of view. :(

''One thing we can say is that it was considerably lower than his tackle on Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final''

    No. Fcuking. Way.

    what a horrible tackle, scumbag

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,709 ✭✭✭CR 7

Ben Arfa didn't roll around looking for attention, so the injury isn't bad....
    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Excellent analysis that.

As horrible tackles go that was outrageously mediocre!

i would say unfortunate. good strong challenge, just a pity that Ben Arfas standing leg was caught. Absolute disaster for Newcastle. Creativity is something we are lacking. We sort that and in true Newcastle form he gets injured within 5 games. Deja vu

Sorry m8 but you dont break an opposing players leg with a "great challenge"

there is nothing great about it

He went to take the leg out.

De Jong's tackle was hard and fair. Just unlucky that Ben Arfa got caught.

It was a robust challenge where he got the ball. Should be just ban tackling instead?

Ah of course ya can, people can be unlucky obviously, wich Ben Arfa was, De Jong won 100% ball but unfortunetly for Ben Arfa he came out the worst!

De Jong is a legend. And that tackle was fine. There was no reaction from the Newcastle players afterwards even.
