Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Front forks squeaking on new bike

    Hi,

Just bought a new mountain bike from Halfords. Regret it already. They have fixed 6 faults with it but when you compress the front forks a few times they begin to make a squeaking noise. Its not compressed air but a very loud squeak. They poured oil in the forks but it made no difference. They refuse to fix this saying it is normal but none of the other bikes in the store make this noise. Is this normal or is it a fault? It is a very annoying noise.

    Thanks.

    Hi There,
sorry to hear about your squeeky fork. The biggest problem with Halfords is, they only pay minium wage. So end up employing a guy, with little or no knowledge of bicycle mechanics.
Pay peanuts, and you get monkeys:eek:

Option one, is to bring the bike back to Halfords. Ask to see the Manager and Insist on a full refund.
If he refuses, just mention you know your rights as a consumer. And say you intend to bring the matter to the small claims court.
Making a small claim is €25, no need for solicitor:D Usually takes a few months. Just state the bicycle was not of Merchantable Quality:(

    Option Two,
Bring your bike to your local specialist bike shop, for a full service.
just make sure, the shop has MTB specific knowledge.
Ask the LBS, to give a written report of the work that needed to be carried out, and keep your recipt. And just put in your claim, to the small claims court.....For the cost of the work required, to make the bike rideable.

What make is your fork? RockShox, Fox, Or Marzocchi.

I hope this is of some help.

    Happy Cycling:)

    Hey,

The thing is most suspension fort on cheap bikes aren't worth a dam...sad but true. Not a Halfords issue just a cheap bike fact.

It sounds like you got a bad one, just go back and demand a refund, job done.
