    Hi
Just started fly fishing this year
Also did a bit of sea fishing, which I want to do a bit more of over the winter, now that the trout season is over.

Just wondering what kind of fish I can catch from the shore over in Galway over the winter>? i'v just moved over here from Dublin. What kind of bait would be best to use? And could anyone pm me some good spots for fishing in this direction!?

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks a lot!

    Derek

I'd be thinking pollack, coally and mullet anyway....

Will you get mullet in the winter?

    Not really.
The summer visitors, mackerel, garfish and mullet will disappear but in their place cold water species will increase in numbers. So you would see more coalfish, and some codling and whiting would make their appearance.

Dont really have the right gear for it.
My reel and rod arn't anti rust.

Also, just want to try out all the different aspects of fishing!

here goes a list of fish that you can catch in various parts of Galway bay over the winter.

    Coalfish
    Pouting,
    Poorcod,
    Whiting,
    Codling,
    Dogfish,
    Conger,
    Flounder,
    3 bearded rockling,
    5 bearded rockling,
    Shore rockling,
    Bass,
    Thornback ray,
    Bull Huss,
    Dab

that's just to name a few regulars that I've caught over the winter months from Black head to Carraroe.

fish baits seem to work better through the winter months too. ;)
