My girlfriend just got a job in London on a 2 year contract.

She will be getting paid by an Irish institution into an Irish Bank Account though.

What UK Bank would be best to transfer living expenses to on a monthly basis?

I'd recommend nationwide, its a building society but I have found them great for transferring money.

Any bank thats in the SEPA scheme:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Euro_Payments_Area

Takes 3 days from my Dutch to my Irish Bank account.
Takes 3 days from my BOI account to AIB .. go figure :

SEPA means theres no additional charge for International Bank Transfer than there is for National i.e. I pay nothing to send money to Ireland since I pay a flat fee for my banking.

HSBC do a duel currency account with fixed exchange rate.
