Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Downloading/installing it now on my SGS. Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: Ok, have it installed. Asks to sync your contacts or update existing. Then it froze.
After a couple minutes, it unfroze - I presume it was sync'ing.

Skype to Phone quality is good.
Skype to Skype quality is good as well.
Doesn't appear to be video calling?

Great, doesn't work on Galaxy S yet...
    Can't even log in.

Installed fine on HTC Desire. Had to reboot phone to shut it down.

Desire to Desire, the call quality started ok (bit distant and crackly, but clear enough) but after a minute degraded with a kind of bubbly interference.

Fring have launched a Fring-out service to day also.

I think on one of the links I posted in the OP it says it isn't on the Galaxy S yet. I have just used it for IMing this morning so far. Quite happy with it. I have Samsung Spica

Yeah there's a known issue with the galaxy s.
    Lots of people reporting it.

    Still no video then?

Skype shouldn't have blocked Fring, they have video calling, screw Skype!

For three users, their skype has been out for a while and uses their voice network.

Broken already for me! Working fine earlier, now when i try sign in it says:

'We're sorry, but we couldn't sign you in. Please try again later.'

    Uninstall and reinstall hasn't helped

I've checked the forum, looks like the server crashed or something. =/

I'm getting the same error message myself, hopefully it is fixed asap.

Does anyone know if this will work on monthly Data plans here ie. Will the likes of Vodafone, O2, Meteor etc block Skype on 3G? If so, is it only the VOIP part that is blocked, or all the IM stuff too?

    Any ideas?

(I know there is an issue currently with the app not logging properly)

So just use it on Wireless then, keep your data usage down

Got to be one of the dumbest apps ever. No way to exit or sign off! Also task manager can't kill it - keeps restarting if you try.

Sound still goes through the headset with a bluetooth enabled car kit/ear piece connected. Hopefully this is sorted asap.

Didn't we have this already...? I could swear around... May or so (when I got my android phone) the phone company 3 (083) had free skype for the android phone...

Funny that, i found it easy enough to navigate to locate how you exit and sign off. Taks Manger was discussed on another thread, not a very good app itself according to a few developers.

I'll give this skype app a go for a while, its free when using wifi so that is a plus already.

    +1

Especially considering it gobbles up 14MB of precious phone memory

Looks like the Sign In servers have crashed anyway.

Lots of bugs to work on for skype.

Pity because it worked well on my Hero for a while.

It's something like My Info -> Status Change I think.

And whats even more awesome is that I now have a landline number through Skype that when somebody rings, comes straight through to either my desktop or android phone.

So I have two numbers in the same phone. And when in an area of low phone coverage, but good Wifi coverage, as often happens in large buildings and remote areas in Mayo, I can call through the Wifi connection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Fiiiiiinally. Took them long enough, but call quality does seem quite good, at leas to the skype test number.

That was a problem everyone was getting last night.

Working for me now. Have you restarted your phone?

    What phone have you got.

"Skype for 3 Mobile" is not the same as pure Skype it routes the calls via GSM and doesn't actually use the data allowance (AFAIK and open to correction on this).

I'm on 3 here in the UK and now have 2 versions of Skype on my Desire as the "Skype for 3 Mobile" can't run when the phone is connected to a WiFi network so need this new Skype to run when using WiFi in work/at home (and remember to switch when not on a WiFi network).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Have both 'Skype' and 'Skype for 3 Mobile' installed on my Galaxy S.
Video calling working fine on the 3Ireland version. I wonder why there is no video on the Skype version?

Anyone tried a call on this using edge? Don't even have 3g coverage in the ****hole I live in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,373 ✭✭✭Shane O' Malley

Edge is not going to be good enough.

I have a motorola milestone. Restarted the phone, and reinstalled the app, but still no joy. Its strange, when I go to sign in using my skype details it says username not found. But I can sign on no problem on my PC so its definitely the correct details. If I click the forgotten password link on the app its still saying the browser is not supported too...

I still get the screen to sign in but if i leave it alone it sign's in automatically after about 1 min.

May see an update later this week i suspect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 773 ✭✭✭seklly

Mine seems to working fine again. I'd say it was just a case of the servers getting overloaded.

Tried 3 calls now, all to other skype users.

Call quality was terrible, Un-Installed until they sort it out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Was that that via Wifi or 3G/2G?
Used it a few times this evening via wifi (no reception in apt). Call quality was great. Might consider getting a Skype-in number. ;)

I was on Wi-Fi, could understand if it was 3g but not wi-fi

Tried a long call on wifi tonight. Quality was great but then started breaking up. Sometimes it'd go 10 minutes without a problem but others it would only last about 2. Had to hangup and call again every time it happened, got fairly irritating after a while.

Better than nothing though, well better than Nimbuzz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭BeciMester

Working fine here. The only issue: calling a PC Skype the call volume was very low, otherwise OK, no breakups/crackle. Tested 3 minutes on wifi and 4 minutes on 3G, same quality on both.
I have a rooted Desire on O2, running OpenDesire 4.0.33 which forces the install on the SD card and can kill the app so no problem there for me. :D The only thing is, if I kill the app the notification icon stays there, tapping it restarts Skype (it has to load and log in again so it's definitely killed).

To be fair Skype does this a bit on any platform I have used it on (Mac, Windows and Linux) whether connected to WiFi or a wired connection (including the connection here in work which is on JANET the UK academic network with amazing speeds/connectivity).

Depends on who your calling as well as network quality. Some connections I have seen have had a 7mb connection but high levels of packet loss.

    Go into skype,
Hit the "my info" tab on the top.
Click on the "Status" (Usually online)
This brings up a "Change status" window.
    Select the "sign out" option.

Just tried this on Vodafone on my Hero, and a call to the test number. Call quality excellent for the first few seconds, then breaks down into nothing recognisable as human speech. Similarly with the playback of the test voice data I left.

Yes it goes through your Data Plan
