Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kevin Poole is starting between the nets tonight for Burton Albion at the ripe young age of 47 and is the oldest player in the Football League. Are there any other footballers of note that defied age, expanding waist lines and receding hairlines to throw on the jersey?!

Jaysus I remember when he was between the sticks for Leicester in the days before Kasey Keller. Real blast from the past.

I think 47 makes Poole older than John Burridge was when he last turned out.

Nwankwo Kanu is still playing for Portsmouth at the ripe old age of 45 34.

According to wikipedia Sir Stanley Matthews was player manager for Hibernians in Malta in 70/71 which would make him 55. Mad bastard.

He's only with an amateur club though. Still some age to be playing at the same time.

He also happens to be one of the only 5 players to have won the European Cup, Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup.

4 of the 5 players won them all with Juventus.

He played his last game for Stoke in division 1 just after his 50th birthday.

Ye fair enough but he is still playing for an amateur club, i would have thought they would have to be playing professionally to be counted. If not i know about 5 players playing in my league every sunday older than him.

I can vividly remember Peter Shilton lining out for Leyton Orient in the late 90s at the age of 48.

Steve Ogrisovic was my favorite old timer. Won a champions league medal in 1978 at Liverpool and he was still playing for Covenrtry in 2000. What a hero!

Just found this, Neil McBain, 51

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_McBain

He remains the oldest player to appear in an English Football League match.

Lost 2 -1 Rotherham skysports.com just told me. Rotherham scored a "superb 22 yard strike" and a penalty so he must've done alright!

I just love the big guy!
