I'm just booking accomodation for a visit to Galway!

We're looking for self catering so salthill was one of our options, how long does it take to walk to the city centre from here? Also, the booking operator told me there's loads of bars, shops etc in salthill itself, are the bars any good?

The other option I have been givin is the carlton suites on the Dublin road! Is this within walking distance to the city?

If you had to pick between the 2 which would you pick?

    Thank you in advance! :)

Salthill in about a 20 minute walk from the City. It's be the sea and near plenty of bars etc.

Carlton on Dublin Road. That's really an industrial type area, nothing going for it.

    Definitely go with Salthill.

Salthill would probably be nicer and possibly a bit closer depending where in Salthill.

One side of salthill could be a 25 minute walk into the city center, the other side of salthill could be a 40 minute walk. That said, there are pubs, casinos, shops etc down in salthill. Google street view of Salthill. <--- Have a look around.

The hotel (if im thinking of the right one) is probably about a 30 minute walk into town. Not a whole lot out that way AFAIK, but then again, ive never looked.

I just checked the place in salthill and it's Jameson court apartments on Upper salthill road. Are they near enough the city?
I got the feeling the carlton was a bit further out..

20 -25 minute walk. In the centre of Salthill. There's a bus stop opposite those apartments which brings you into the City Centre. There's a handful of good eating options and pubs at your doorstep.

From Salthill town its only about a ten/fifteen minute walk and its also on the bus route. As a resident of Salthill I'd defintitly pick it:D

Depends on how young/fit you are: I'd quote it as a 20-30 minute walk.

But agree with the above, definitely Salthill. There are some bars etc out there, and the walk in is kinda nice.

With the Carlton, the walk in is very blah/traffic-ish, and you only go past one pub.
