Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Literary and Debating Society in NUI, Galway is in its.... (something about 164 years of existence, free speech etc)

The important thing is that on Thursday October 14th, the Society is holding its football debate with the motion 'Has the Beautiful Game Lost its Soul?'. Speaking will be Jonathan Wilson (author of Inverting the Pyramid, Guardian and SI columnist) and Phillipe Auclair (author of Cantona-The Rebel who Would Be King, France Football correspondent). After they've spoken anyone who's there has a chance to talk for or against the motion.

In terms of details, it's free, it's in NUI, Galway (Kirwan Theatre), its open to the public and the meeting starts at 7 but the debate on the motion would start at 8. The Soccer Board has been a source of much enlightening and entertaining content for a long time for me so I'd be delighted if some of you were interested in joining the debate.

PS: I asked the mod(s), they are ok with this AFAIK.

I might just pop in to that as I have labs till 6 on Thursday in NUIG. I'd be very interested to see if the De Jong incident is raised.......

Just a small update. Jonathan and Phillipe will probably be speaking against the motion, i.e. they think football still has its soul. We have two Honorary Life Members of the Society (thus good speakers) and who're also football fans taking part as well to ensure balance (both Liverpool fans I'm afraid :P) This speaking order is subject to change.

Though I'm hoping the event will more be a general chat rather than something polarised and confrontational. After all, if you care enough to be there then you probably don't hate football. If theres any more updates or if there's any questions, I'll update here.
