Trial on Anglesey to improve rural broadband

    A scheme to improve broadband connection in rural areas is to be tried out in 300 Anglesey homes.

    Aberffraw, Llanfair-yn-Neubwll and Bryngwran areas are part of the pilot project run by i3 Group.

    Wireless and fibre optic connections will be used to take broadband to homes in areas with little or no access.

    The company providing the services, Carrier Wales, said it hoped the trial would "revolutionise communications in north Wales".

    Initial broadband speeds of up to 10Mbps will be provided and will be bundled with telephone and other services in the future.

    Residents and businesses will be told once the scheme becomes available to them.

    Carrier Wales company director, John Prescott, said the scheme - known as Fibrezone - was a "true rural broadband solution".

    "For too long we have been unable to deliver reliable services to the residents and businesses in north Wales, if at all, because the infrastructure simply isn't here," he said.

    "The prospect of a rollout following this trial will revolutionise communications in north Wales."
