Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey,
    Welcome to boards!
I do repairs if you want to PM me for details :)
the repair itself isnt too expensive but the elements price would probably be around €100 but i would have to check :)

How bad is the scratch? Does it interfere with the resulting image?

Many 'soft' scratching won't be noticeable at all on resulting images - i'm not sure the exact science as to why, but I suspect it is because you are never focusing on 3cm from the sensor. Its the same with other elements, I've seen branches of trees 'disappear' in the resulting image when you focus in the distance and at a particular focal length.

Anyhow, it may annoy the heck out of you knowing it is scratched but maybe you'd get away without needing to do the repair?

    Cheers.

    ^^What he said^^

The only time it may be evident is with increased flare when shooting into strong light.

I did recently notice dirt in the front element of a lens being seen on an image. This was with an 8mm Fisheye and with it stopped right down to f22, so the DOF was something awesome. The blemishes were still not that noticeable and easily cloned out.

Saw this a while ago, have a look at the shots taken with this badly smashed lens

Wow that is pretty impressive, I would never have thought it could be that badly damaged and perform so well! :O

Here's another article showing effect of lens scratches, dirt and entirely smashed elements on the resulting photos: http://kurtmunger.com/dirty_lens_articleid35.html

You'll be surprised how little effect it has
