Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Muslim Converts

Hi this is a question for muslim converts (or reverts)

I am interested in hearing what the conversion process to Islam is like. from people's personal experiences is there a momentary realisation that Islam is the one true religion? Is it a more gradual process that more and more you become disillusioned with your own faith, and gradually move toward Islam?

For those who were previously of another faith, what was it about those religions that you no longer felt were consistent with the truth compared with Islam.

This is merely just for my own curiosity, as its not something which I have come across in my personal life.

Just a bit about myself. I'm not religious. I'm an agnostic atheist. I see order in the universe, mainly through the symmetry and beauty of the mathematics and laws which govern it. I personally believe in a sort of creative force that converted itself to matter, energy, space and time at the beginning of the universe, and that 'force' remains today in every atom, and photon of energy.

I'm also a bit of an arabophile. I love Arabian culture, history, and writings. I have travelled to the area and am in the process of learning the language at the moment.

Anyway, so what was your conversion like?

PS, If this has been asked plenty of times before, then I apologise, I just amn't able to use the search function at the moment.

Like yourself I'm non religious but my wife is Sufi Islam.
Of all religions I've encountered I find Islam to be the most fascinating.
It really seems to have an incredible way of binding people together and people really seem to genuinely believe in and respect their faith.

I've been to a festival in Senegal "Magal de Touba" where five millions muslims attend each year.
It all seems to be about people sharing everything they have ...nobody pays for food and people pray, sing and dance together for a week.
    Regardless of sex,age,colour or creed.
    Truly mindblowing.

    Salaam yekahs,

I am an Irish convert, or revert as we like to say :-)

I was a non-practising Catholic for a long time, then I stopped believing in God altogether. This was at a time in my life when I was young, partying a lot and to be honest didn't give it much thought. Then I met a friend who was a Muslim. I began to ask her a lot about the religion. Before I met her I hadn't a clue about Muslims and didn't even know the difference between Muslims and Hindus (I blame that on our education system!). Anyway the more I learnt about Islam the more it made sense to me and fitted in with how I felt. It was a long process though, it too me three years of learning about Islam to finally take the plunge and convert.

and if you don't mind me asking are/were you married before you converted?

    I'm a sunni. No, I married after I converted.

To Covert to Islam, you just have to say '' There is only one God and that is Allah and Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H is his messenger''. Or in Arabic '' La Ilaha Illallah Muhammad-ur-rasool Allah '' .
