Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rear axle bearings worn out ?

Anyone out there good at mechanics ? I drive a 207 k mile 1992 km35 toyota Liteace. There is a loud whirring, humming noise coming from the back end of this van.It gets louder with speed and is there even when coasting. I reckon its the bearings where the wheel joins the axle.I pulled the brake drum off and took off the shoes and adjuster gear. I removed the 4 14 mm bolts that hold the backing plate to the axle via a kind of retaining bracket but could find no way of removing the axle. There is a half a mil of play but no leaks.I can find no help or manuals to down load on the net after hours of looking. It probably has a similar setup to a lot of r.w.d. jap machines.Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks for the diagram. My van has a different set up though. There is no bearing nut to be seen.In fact I'm beginning to wonder what exactly holds the half shaft in place other than the bearing cover.Could there be something on the shaft in at the diff. end ? I'm now going to try and force the axle to back out using two bolts and nuts set up between the axle flange and the wheel hub and adjust so as to apply pressure between the two if Ican.
    All ideas welcome.
