In fairness, it's not the kind of thing they need to do.

Depp probably did it for the buzz.

Might well be, but fair fúcks to them for doing it in that way. Very memorable for all involved.

I hear he's excellent at doing his make-up and no-one would have any problems if he just wandered off set of his own accord in the middle of the day and took some of the cast with him.

True... but as stunts go, that's a real cute one :D

It would have been far more interesting if he went as Hunter S. Thompson, in character.

He hardly needs to do this sort of thing to promote PoTC - one of the best selling movie franchises in recent years

Depp seems to be a decent enough sort, from various interviews and stuff I've seen him in. I'd say he just had a spur of the moment idea to do this school trip when he read the girl's letter. It's something those kids will remember for a long long time, and he probably got a few chuckles from it. Win win. :D

He seems genuinely down to earth, I think thats why people like him, he doesnt take himself too seriously

Yup, that movie, starring one of the most respected actors around, the 4th in one of the biggest franchises in movie history, thats not out for another 7 months, gets the promotional ball rolling by Depp apparing in a school in England and only phone camera footage being shot, the Disney marketing team are trying a radical new approace to film promotion.

    such cynics :pac:

anyway, its a cool thing for a huge movie star to do for what seems like the sh1ts and giggles of it, made that kids year.

    Poor fcuking kid:

Kid sends a confidential note; a last ditch, deperate attempt to free her from a regime so brutal she sent a letter to Johnny Depp asking for help. Johnny fcuking Depp!!! Imagine how desperate you'd need to be that your last genuine port of call for rescue was a hollywood actor, imagine how worn at the bottom of the barrel was that she found herself with no other recourse than to write johnny Fcuking Depp a note, asking for help.

And what does the prick do? Rescue her, give her shelter, pay to move her to a new school? Nope ... he shops the poor kid out in front of the entire school!!!!

    W4nker!!!!

In 2008 Depp donated £1million to Great Ormond Street Hospital after they treated his daughter for kidney failure.

The world needs more Johnny Depps.:)

Johnny Depp probably does things like this all the time, but we don't hear about it because he probably does it out of kindness.

Yet on the other hand if Bono done it,it would be all over the news.

I turned up at the local national school once dressed as a soldier from the 1798 rising. I was arrested. This Depp fella gets away with a lot just because he looks good - you can see by this thread - he brings out the latent homosexual in everyone.

My brother met him (in a professional doctor type capacity) in London when his daughter was ill and said both Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis were very nice to deal with. He donated a million pounds to Great Ormond Street afterwards and turned up unannounced as Jack Sparrow to entertain the kids. The only pictures of this you might find are from patients and staff i.e. no newspapers so it was no publicity stunt.

Back in the nineties a teacher brought a group of students up to Aspen to meet Thompson. Hunter brought them to Owl Farm to sign copies of his books which involved marching them all out back to his firing range and shooting all of their books with his. 44 Magnum. :D
