    Hi,

Cooking a main Thai Course this evening consisting of sea bass and prawns.

Can anyone recommend a handy starter to make?

    Thanks.

I'd do a variation on the above (given that you will also have prawns in the main course).

Or if you have the time and are willing to search for a unripe papaya in one of the Asian shops try making Som Tam instead (this is really tasty):

Or satay, can be a bit time consuming to prepare, but always goes down a treat:

I used to religously order a thai crispy beef salad as a starter...unreal, satay chicken skewers is another one i love.

Agreed with sombaht on the Som Tam, it's absolutely amazing and very addictive. You can get fresh or jarred green papaya in the Asia Market on Drury St.

There are a lot of good recipe ideas here. Koh, a Thai restaurant near the Jervis St. LUAS stop, do a delicious starter: "Betel Leaves crispy shallot, roast coconut, Nahm Jim, peanuts" with a choice of fillings, the sticky pork and ginger is great.

The pork comes warm in a small ramekin, another ramekin with the Nahm jim, and the crispy shallot, roast coconut and roasted crushed peanuts on the side, with some coriander and lime segments. You take the betel leaves and add your fillings, wrap it up and pop it in your mouth. It's really awesome :)
