Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Deleting old backup zipped files/folders

    I have a few that are quite old now (taking up several gb of space) can I zap them without any worrysome fallout? Vitsa HE SP2

    If you have newer backups that include the same items, and you don't need a variety of different versions of something for some reason, I don't see why not. Remember a backup is only any good if you can restore from it - have you tested your backups ? Do you have more than one from a particular date, do you have copies at remote locations ?

    The level of backup requirement will depend on what sort of data you have.

    If in doubt, burn them to dvd or move them to an external drive, then delete them from your machine. (I'd leave the most recent one on there though, just in case.)

    A backup held on the same disk as the data contained in the backup is great until a disk failure occurs, do burn the most recent to DVDR anyway. You don't want to end up in the 1000euro data recovery specialist scenario !

    And again, think about the value of your data. Maybe you have family videos, maybe you have a customer/supplier database for a company with 500,000 p/a turnover. I don't want to know which, but you decide. If its really valuable, you should keep a backup in a secure off-site location.
