    People: can you help me?

There are a number of mysteries which I am trying to unravel.

No, seriously. But for a random reason the first one bugging me is the way in which people use the verb 'to sit'

I sat (or were sat) I sat, I sat (or am sat), I sat, I will sat, I would sat (or would be sat)

Instead of: I was sitting, I sat, I am sitting, I sit, I will sit, I would sit?

Also while we're at it what's with the strange love of the series 'Friends'? It was just a very run-of-the-mill sit-com. When people talk about it they seem to talk in a strange sort of morse code.

    Monica-Phoebe-Phoebe-Phoebe Monica-Monica-Monica Monica-Phoebe-Monica Phoebe-Phoebe Monica-Phoebe Monica-Monica.

Bonus points to anybody who translates that. :pac:

Some things Man was not meant to know.

The illogicalities of language is what makes it so interesting.

While he was sitted at his computer, he could have also thought about the lack of fun at a funeral and to set about finding out why set has about 30 meanings.

What about Sat- nav? Is that a past tense thing? If I sat-navved yesterday, what will I do tomorrow?

Or Saturn? Sit-urn sounds positively fecal - and what would you do with the urn afterwards? One runs into similar issues with satisfaction ( sitisfaction! Oh, yes, can't beat that with a big stick! ),satchels, etc.

OP - I commend you on opening up a whole new area of research & comment which only AH could deal with appropriately. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the TV series you mentioned. I actually never sat down to watch it.
