Xpert Eleven revisited

About 2 years ago we set a league up on Xperteleven and we got a good few teams joining up. It is like a football manager game but can be picked up very quickly.

We had a lot of people drop off for different reasons and so have a few uneven teams as some were not looked after.

So, I am setting up a new league for anyone who fancies it.

    http://www.xperteleven.com/?lid=253499

Typically expect to spend maybe 15 mins at the start becoming familar with the site etc. Once the league starts each team plays 2 games every week, and you need only spend about 5 mins twice a week to pick tactics etc for the next match.

All teams will be created with an equal level of skill to start off with, so a level playing field for all.

At least 6 are needed but hopefully we get a few more so we can have a few divisions (which division you end up in is completely random)

We had some great seasons over the last two years... back to the start now with a level playing field, cant wait :)

X11 is a great game, VERY addictive, but takes up very little of your time.

Would recommend anyone with an interest in online football games such as champ manager or even fantasy football to give it a go.

Damn i really did get addicted to this the last time. Looking forward to it again.

So is the current league being abolished?

I wanna join this but don't have space to join anymore leagues at the mo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

I had the same problem... resign from the old league Neil

Can't wait for this league, my team is SH*TE but a few nice prospects...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Cheers Rory. Where's the resign button? Can't see it on the team page.

    I just joined there!

Do I just set up my team and wait for the league to be started?

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭wardie101

I have deleted the old league so you should have the space to join now

Set you team up but once there is 6 (which I think there is now) you can start training / using transfer market / play friendlies before we kick off

Already trimmed my squad down as far as they'll allow... so much muck :)

    Who wants a friendly?

Sad to see the old lads all gone :(

Buy in a couple of rubbish youngsters for nothing overnight and get rid of another two...and the next night. A 17/3 with no heart is better than 27/5 with one in a first season..

I would join - playing the game for 5 years now, but no space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

Thats the plan... Most of us have been playing 2 year + so should be a good league.

I started a new league recently and the first few seasons are easily the most enjoyable. Just started the second season and my team is already worth over 60m :)

I chose 'get a team', was I supposed to do that?

No i think you need to go to creat private team or join private league on the main lobby page, you will get to name your own team and you will have to enter the league id 253499.

The "Xpert League" is one of the official leagues where you compete in usually 8 divisions. The boards.ie league would be a private league. You can mess about in private leagues..you can't in the official leagues, that's really the only difference.

Go to search, League ID, then put in 253499 and this boards league should come up, then "apply for team in this league".

Read the rules section. It gives a good start up idea of what to do and not to do and then depending on how addicted you want to be, you can work from there...:D

There are two ways you can approach the game really... short term or long term success.

Tastes like Chicken dominated the league for the last few seasons because they put money into developing their team in the first few seasons. Although they were relegated a few seasons ago, as their team simply wasn't strong enough at the time, towards the end they were simply unstoppable :(

Long term approach: You can buy in a huge amount of low skilled young players, train the up in the first few seasons, and by season 5 or 6 you should have a team which pretty solid, and challenging for titles. But be prepared to slip down the divisions and be fairly mediocre for the first few, and possibly most exciting divisions :)

Short term: Buy a load of high skilled veterans, dominate the first few seasons then fall apart when other teams begin to overtake you.

Personally I'll be aiming in the middle somewhere... healthy mix of young and old that will improve massively each change report, whilst still remaining competitive. Easier said than done! Already bought in a highly rated young striker last night... debating whether or not I should let go of my 17/5 player, could get almost 7m for him!

A few guides for new players...

    Oh I really want to but I know I shouldn't. :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭wardie101

19 in so far...once we get to 24 I will kick it off with 3 divisions of 8...so get a team in now from the start :)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

    A couple of things...

Good free-kick specialists are worth their weight in Platinum and cost as much

You can tend to pay waay over the odds for special qualities

The average age rule: 26. The further away from 26, the worse the results. Long term, keeping the starting 11 and squad at 26 and competitive will drive you all demented :pac:

Over 26 is fine, all the best teams are made up of over 30s. It's an average age of U-26s that is damaging.

How will this league be formated? at the moment there are 19 members, which is a lot for one league (be ages between change reports), but making divisions would be arbitrary!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

What rank are you in the game dfx? I'm hovering around the 10,000 mark...

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Over 26 isn't fine in the long run. The best team in the entire game, FC Ballbreakers in my league (Master League) won everything before them, successive XCL finals are now collapsing because all of their players are well over 30. The rebuilding job will see them plummet down the league. And they never won the XCL and will not be in the hall of fame because younger teams beat them.

I'm beginning to stabilise again at about 1400, roryc. It has fluctuated between 400 and 9,000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭KenHy

It's harder to maintain form for over 30s, but unless the rules have changed there is no disadvantage of playing a team with an average age over 26 in the same way as their is for playing a team with an average age of under 26.

So if Team A has an Average age of 35 and an average form of 12, whilst Team B has an average age of 24 and an average form of 12, Team A would likely win all other factors equal. That is because Team B would get penalised for having a low Average age.

The manager of team A would have a harder time maintaining his form of 12, but once he does there is no disadvantage.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,697 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

As far as I was aware the further away from 26 either side, your team performs under 100%.

    26 = 100% performance
    25/27 = 90% performance
    24/28 = 80% performance

    etc.

Unless those rules have changed. It is fairly easy for a decent 26 aged team to beat an over 30 team, unless the skill gap is monstruous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭KenHy

You are right, thats how it works, but only for under 26s. there is no disadvantage for teams with an age over 26.
The average age should be at least 26 years for the team to be able to perform 100%. If the average age is less than 26 years then the team/team part will perform poorer than if the average age was 26 years or more. The lower the average age is the bigger the performance reduction will be. It has no additional effect on the team if the average age is over 26 years. As long as the average age on the selected players in the team/team part is over 26 years the team/team part will perform 100%.

Interesting, I wasn't aware it had changed

I now can empathise with all the complaints about old teams..there's a great team just taken over by a manager who in his previous team had one player under 27 in his entire squad with a ranking of 11. I hope he doesn't wreck them..

Is this anything like champ manager that i used to play 4/5 years ago? Is it real players or made up ones?

Need two more managers to join and then I can create the leagues to start next week...in the meantime start training your best players and you can play friendlies with other teams in the league

in fact strike that as it doesn't look like i can join another league just yet, can't resign from an existing league mid-season

  • Registered Users Posts: 192 ✭✭wardie101

With a number of managers being absent for over a month, there are some teams available to be taken over....

Not too much ground will be lost overall in just 8 games so half a season to turn them around !!
