Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1011/google.html - sounds scary, I'd say it'd also collect more than a few pedestrians, playing kids...

That's cool. You know, allowing people drive cars is actually dumb- even people capable of driving well are prone to errors and miss-haps. Unfortunaly with cars, making errors can have serious consequences. Also, humans interacting with each other in traffic is not efficient, since we have to 'guess' what others are intending to do- so journey times are increased unnecessarily. For sure the technology is only new, but in 20 - 30 years time, people will look back and shudder the thought of actually driving yourself and putting your life in the hands of other human drivers.

It requires millions (if not billions) of road km to collect enough data and experience to make this software safe in the majority of instances and thankfully it looks like they're doing that. Smaller traffic such as cyclists, motorcyclists, peds and animals are often overlooked when it comes to detection (both by humans and robots!) - I can guarantee you that if the RLJ in this case was a car, the computer would have spotted it instantly.

Of course the paper hypes it up somewhat - "He had to slam on the big red button". More likely he just hit the brakes, muttered, "Feckin cyclists" and then clicked the autopilot back on.

It'll be great when this kind of tech. becomes mainstream. Much safer for us.

+1, and it wouldn't be a big deal to have bikes fitted with some sort of radio beacon/reflector that the cars could detect, same for pedestrians like some armband or even keyring.
