    .

Wonder if they're doing something to the RTE DAB service from this transmitter ?

The change in signal strength to Saorview from CC post DSO was quite remarkable. While the FM signals get well into NI, the same can't be said for DAB from the same location.

Not getting any Saorview from Monaghan atm. If it's a transmitter problem, I wonder is it just Monaghan or is Clermont off too?

Well, it's back now, whatever was wrong.

Clermont Carn's FM signals can be received in Co. Cork so it's no surprise they get into NI :)

Yep, must have one of the best FM coverage areas of any transmitter in the whole of the British Isles marno. You can get it as far north as Portrush, believe it or not and it certainly gets out well south of Dublin.

It's strange DAB is so weak. Sometimes the radio stops on a retune but doesn't save anything. It was the same with Saorview before DSO.

It would be nice if they could do something with the DAB signal with regard to NI especially with 567khz now gone and the fact that Lyric FM reception is so poor due to Carnmoney Hill.

Still, I suppos we can get the mux on Saorview now so at least that's something.

have FTA with the triax box

last night the BBC HD channels kept breaking up, does this happen often? is it weather related...high pressure and all that??

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

I don't know if Ku band satellite signals are affected by temperature inversions. Certainly not by the same mechanism as terrestrial signals i.e. distant co-channel signals travelling longer distances than usual, causing interference.

If you are receiving BBC via your aerial then it is probably the high pressure. Dependong on where you live and the distance between you and the transmitter this could happen regularly during good weather.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^

no i'm recieving it through FTA satellite

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,739 ✭✭✭zg3409

The breakup on satellite is probably your dish slightly out of alignment. If it is OK now I would leave well alone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

is the skew of the LNB critical ? for signal strength

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,739 ✭✭✭zg3409

Skew is not critical, but if a certain channel is just on the border it could have the effect of breaking up. Certain channels are weaker than others, and these should be tested once a dish is set up.

Currently a blank screen on TV3 and 3E from Clermont Cairn. Signal strength still 100%.

Is this a nationwide problem or just CC ?

    All other Saorview channels unnafected.

Yep, back at this end as well.

I had similar problems with the Mux. that carried UTV on Freeview (Channel 21) a couple of days ago. 100% signal but a message saying no signal being received.

I gather there was some sort of software update and it only affected certain boxes (a Sony PVR in this case). A manual retune solved the problem.

Not sure if the two were connected.
