Mullaghanish went off-air here tonight on the dot of midnight, is this happening anywhere else?

    Edit: returned at 00:23

Further edit: off again at 00:53 and back at 00:55, must be some maintenance work going on there.

Probably in preparation for the launch of Mux II next Monday, I would imagine.

    Hello

    Can anyone help -

On Saiview transmitters on what is currently Mux 1, what channels do you get?

    Is it just

    RTE1
    RTE2
    RTE2 HD
    RTE News Now
    RTE Junior
    TV3
    TG4
    3e

Can someone please say what is currently on mux 1 and 2 (if 2 is on test), and please post the new full line-up and what mux has what channels after the changes tomorrow?

If it has been posed elsewhere, please advise.

    Thanks.

We don't know what is actually happening tomorrow other than a few Mux1 frequency changes at 5 small relays. No official announcement regarding Mux 2 or any channels changes, lots of discussion/speculation in the thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056216183

Changes seem to be happening today all over the country. A re-scan may bring in the new HD version of RTE1, but it may be after 3pm before all the changes are in place. If a rescan does not solve the problem try again this evening. You may end up with a HD version of RTE1 as channel number one and a standard resolution version as channel 11, depending if your TV/box is 100% Saorview compatable.

I rescanned and RTE1 SD was showing a blank screen. Is the simulcast happening in other areas?

Just noticed that RTE1 has moved to Ch11 and shifted UTV And 5 later is now showing where RTE1 was. Its also saying on RTE1 that a rescan is required.

If they are now separate, it may be that RTE1+1 will expand. I don't suppose anything has been said of that though?

Dept of Communications approval required for any changes to the PSB channels as per the Broacasting Act, the extra RTÉ channels are up for review by mid 2014.

Since doing the rescan Channel 1 (RTE1 HD) and Channel 7 (RTE jr) are both unwatchable, freezing and jittery. I can watch both on channels 11 and 17, so temporarily it's OK! Channels 11, 17 and 18 all still show "rescan required" in the EPG, even though a rescan has been done?
Also is there any reason why channel 18 initially shows as "data service" on my tv before the rte one+1 logo appears or is it just a quirk of my TV? (It appeared as data channel during the scan also as opposed to digital channel or radio)

When either RTÉ1 +1 or RTÉjr are off-air an MHEG-5 caption is generated in the receiver and displayed on screen, that's what you're seeing. MHEG-5 is the piece of software that is used to display RTÉ Aertel also.

Could be signal reception problem. What type of aerial are you using?
Do you know which transmitter you're receiving the Saorview signal from?
Can you identify the frequency or UHF channel no.?
Which transmitter does Saorview recommend for your area - http://www.saorview.ie/what-is-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

RTE1 HD which is the only new channel I'm interested in at the moment is also unwatchable for me. Signal strength seems to be jumping from 80 to 10 percent constantly accompanied by constant picture breakup.

I'm on the Kilkeaveragh transmitter, have line of sight and use rabbit ears antenna for reception. All the previous channels are fine including RTE2 HD.

Rabbit ears aerials are designed for VHF reception.

RTÉ1 HD is on a new UHF frequency so that rabbit ears aerial may be inadequate for reception of that frequency. Something like this would be more suitable - http://cpc.farnell.com/mercury/sto2/set-top-aerial-olympik-2/dp/AP00025 with the director bars orientated vertical

Thanks, Just had a look at the signal strength etc  My aerial is in the loft, have always received a good reception from it until now, well i still have a good reception on the other channels even though signal strength is low.

I will have to get someone to go up into the loft and see if we can improve on the signal.

Cairn Hill is my recommended transmitter - afaik that is the one i am using.
    RTE1 HD freq:658000 KHz.

What type of aerial are you using, a standard contract or grid?

If it's a contract it may have a coloured bung at the end of the aerial or coloured tape which identifies its group. Clermont Carn Cairn Hill is Group B / yellow bung.

Good reception? So trouble-free at least 99% of the time?

I'd wager it's actually just on the borderline & you need to take your aerial out of the loft & install it outside.

Yes, it has been trouble free 99% of the time. My house is on top of a hill and the aerial has been fine in the loft till now. I only have a portable aerial in my bedroom( like the one in the picture The Cush posted) and the channels were OK on that too, although RTE1 HD, despite picking up 100% signal is getting a couple of glitches sinces i rescanned, but nothing near like my main tv is getting. Someone was up in my loft a couple of weeks ago so i don't know whether the aerial may have been knocked or not but i will get someone to take a look for me during the week.

I'd say you meant Cairn Hill TC. Mux 1 on ch 47 (682 Mhz) and mux 2 on 44 (658 Mhz).

I think it is sort of like the contract type, not exactly the same though, it is definitely not the other type though, that i am sure of. Sorry i'm not giving much info for you to go on but i haven't been up in the loft in a long time. What group is Cairn hill? Or where could i find out what group it is?

As i said, i will get someone to go up and take a look so i know what i'm dealing with - obviously knowing the type of aerial i have would be helpful for a start lol Thanks anyways

    Guys

Did a rescan today on the TV as rte 1 was no longer showing. It completed and picked up UTV on the channel I was on. Changed channel and what came up is:

    Load MHEG5

When this happens, the tv stops responding. NO button on the remote or TV works, I have to turn it off on the wall and back on, then same thing.
The tv is one wiht a saorview receiver built in.

This happen to anyone else or anyone know what to do?
Can get the option to rescan as, as said, its just not responding.

Not sure which receiver im on but im located in mid-north Louth, could always get the Irish channels, sometimes get a few of he english

Possibly try a manual scan. Frequencies for Clermont Carn (North Louth) are ch 52 (722 Mhz) and 56 (754 Mhz). RTE1 HD, RTEjr and RTE 1+1 are on 56. Does your aerial point N or NE? If so, CC would be your transmitter.

It wont allow me to do anything though. That message just stays on screen. Once it comes up, it doesnt respond to the remote or any buttons on the tv itself
