Selling my car, getting interest from the continent, not sure if it's a scam.

Besides that shows how deadly needed is some Irish insurer who would provide temporary cover at least for foreigners.
Unfortunately, there is no insurance company in Ireland that would insure a non Irish resident on a temporary cover. Not at present anyway...

Yes there is. A friend of mine regularly insures visitors on his AIG (now Chartis) policy for a week or ten days when they come to visit. No hassles at all....

EDIT - Okay, see what you mean. Irish insurance companies don't do temporary policies.

Get an Irish resident (one of her family, friend, whatever) to take out the policy and put her down as a named driver. Cancel policy as soon as she's home safely. Job done.

Are you sure that you can add a non Irish resident to a policy?

100% certain. I've no idea about non-EU residents, but EU residents, no problem.

    That sounds reasonable.

Yes, not a problem. I regularly add my sister or mother, from US, to mine when they come over.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I have been meaning to come on here and ask a question for some time, and you mentioning of changing to LHD has prompted me.

i often work in Belgium and travel on motorways quite a lot. Not a day goes by but I dont see Uk reg and even some Irish reg damaged ,and not damaged cars heading Eastbound on trucks registered in the East. This does not mean they are going to the country of reg of the truck, but they may be.

Among them i have seen a 94 Cork reg mercedes.
is it really a feasible proposition to change over the steering, or are they going for parts. i felt that if they were for parts they could pack them in closer in containers, maybe even cut them up a bit.

    Any ideas?
i have worked with polish fella in dublin and they were always on the look out for cheap german cars to send out to poland .it was easier to change over german cars , more or easier , cheaper to find parts

Ha ha, yes she did come and buy the car. Paid cash, all legit and above board. She got her insurance by back dating the change of ownership, not sure how it worked but it worked for her.

She was a real car enthusiast and I'm glad she bought it off me, for 2 reasons, she will look after it very well and as its gonna be in Poland I won't see it around!!

I will miss it but it was time to go. :( Thanks everyone for all your help, specially CiniO for all the info.

I wish someone in Poland would frickin' offer to buy my car.........I'd bloody deliver it, as well !

Only just saw this question, no i gave wrong info ,the merc was 94 lh and the cork reg was a vectra or something.

A while ago i saw a transit or similiar one car transporter, rhd, irish made body ,as i saw the sticker, carrying a 91 reg ,Limerick i think, wine coloured bmw 5 series. the transporter was being driven on I think german trade plates.
