Just got this email from the Skerries Community Association. Such a shame after all the voluntary work on water quality that took place over the Summer.
George Sharpson, Principal Environmental Health Officer at Fingal County Council, has advised the SCA that the pumping station at the Rugby Club has failed, resulting in the discharge of raw sewage into the sea at that point at Holmpatrick. The failure occurred at 7 am today.

Fingal CC are in the process of trying to fix the problem but as of 12.30 pm today, sewage is still being discharged. Water samples are being taken. George Sharpson is advising that nobody go swimming in the sea in the Skerries area until further notice. The Council will notify us when the problem has been resolved and when the water quality is deemed to be safe for bathing. Please pass this on to anyone who may be affected by this and who may not be receiving the community newsflash.

Shame, another reason for water charges ASAP to provide a network that can deal with issues like this.

Sure they've been pumping out raw sewage out the back of Hand Park here in Rush for years. What doesn't kill you will only make you.. very very sick :pac:

No mention of it on FCC's website, or on their Twitter feed. Leaving it to the volunteers of the SCA to get the word out is ridiculous when you consider that this could endanger the health of anybody takes to the water

Update yesterday from the Skerries CA
George Sharpson has confirmed that the bathing water samples taken yesterday indicate that the water at Springers, Captains and South Beach are ok to swim in.

Fingal have confirmed that the waste water treatment/pump station has now been fixed and is working normally for Holmpatrick and Skerries.

Is there any evidence to show the failure was due to a lack of money? or was it badly planed and executed? Like the water supply situation where the co co gave permission to developers, took development levies and then complained when they didn't build enough capacity to supply the water to the new residents?

Is there any evidence that water charges would prevent the same failure mechanism?
