    They don't.

Well, research shows that in Ireland at least, girls learn better in single sex schools, but boys do better in mixed schools. Google Emer Smyth, Anne Lodge, Kathleen Lynch for research papers.

I guess if it's for a debate, you'll only want the co-ed positives.

    Some of these are:

    • Pupils tend to have a more positive attitude towards schooling in co-ed schools

    • Pupils in co-ed schools tend to be more satisfied with their personal and social development than pupils in single sex schools.

    • Single-sex schools can be more academically and socially competitive, which can have a negative effect on self-image

That's about it, most research points to there being way more advantages to single-sex school settings than co-ed ones.

You could argue that whether a school is single-sex or co-ed is irrelevant. What really affects educational outcomes is the pupil's social background, access to resources (such as quality teachers, grinds etc) and ability.

    Good luck in the debate.
