Don't see a thread for this and I've searched..

    FABLEX360CE.jpg

Have prebooked with gamestop, the collectors edition for €55 (which doesn't seem right but no complaints), due out on October 29th.

So it's supposed to be what Fable 2 was originally meant to be (from what I gather on the web). I just hope they don't push the whole marriage/family thing too far in this one, it wasn't the most enjoyable feature of the last one.

Also seems they are going to be taking a more cinematic approach this time, i.e.: you don't start off as a blank canvas, you begin as a 'prince or princess' style character and build upon it from there. (the character already has a bit of history stemming from fable 2 I believe). There's also going to be a new country 'Aurora' which could wage war on Albion, and you as ruler will need to defend it.

I actually quite like this particular piece on Fable 3's wikipedia page:
In an interview with OXM UK, he spoke about how Fable was at risk of becoming a generic game where the player started off underpowered and weak but slowly got more powerful after they met the bad guy. After the player killed the bad guy, the credits would roll. Believing that is the formula that applies to many games, he asked why games "end at potentially the most exciting bit?" It was this that formed the basis of Fable III, where the player can overthrow the tyrant before becoming ruler themselves.

    Anyone looking forward to it?

    €55

Off to game stop I go, it's around the 80 mark in most places online.

    Hrm €55 you say....

Also, Fable 2 was meant to be what Fable 1 was originally meant to be, tis the nature of Molyneux's design philsophy.

I love these games. Will have to preorder it. This one seems like it might be particularly good if it lives up to whats being said about it.

He's known to have too many dreams about the games unfortunetly. But I'll grab it on the PC first if I can run it.

If not; new 360 for me.

Are you sure it's 55 euro?

Huh, that's weird. Normally GameStop have higher prices than Game.

I will check out both game and gamestop today, (At saint stephans green and grafton street). Back later with confirmed prices.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭fifth

Yeah, I actually asked them a few weeks ago what the price would be and they said €49.99 for standard, €54.99 for collectors edition. Online it shows the same prices. Confirmed in store today collectors edition for €54.99..preordered.

Just hope they don't whack the price up to €80 at the last minute because those 'extras' aren't worth an extra €30.

No support at launch, supposed to be patched in at a later date, but I wouldn't bet on it. Any Kinect support won't be that extensive either I'd imagine.

I didn't enjoy the growing up jazz in one or two, looking forward to this now that you start at a later age.

Will there be much of a multiplayer option?

I went and prepurchased today, at gamestop. 55 euro. Didnt bother going to game as the one on grafton street is closed it seems and the online price was like 60 pounds.

Kinetic support for this would be oh-so awesome. I went into the xbox store at grafton street today, terrible staff. I went to the desk and asked "do you have a list of games which will be released in the next 6 months which will have kinetic support?"

She starts telling me about kinetic adventures and the demo games. Oh and that I can go to xbox.com ..apparently it is really useful.

Online play in this one is supposed to be leaps and bounds better than the second game. You don't share a screen, you can venture off anywhere in the same zone, one questing one doing a profession/socialising. You can marry over live as well as doing other things that I can't remember.

Whether it has or will have Kinect features doesn't matter at all to me. I have no intention of getting kinect. I have a PS3 and a 360 to play on a proper pad with buttons. If Kinect takes off I'll cry. :(

On a happier note, really looking forward to this game. Loads of good games due this month.

    Interesting :P - http://kotaku.com/5661958/there-is-a-game-inside-the-game-of-fable-iii-and-other-details
Lagging in my awareness of Fable III, I've missed a few details. I caught up yesterday and learned new things about Fable III.

For those coming to this even later than I am, let me toss in some basics. Fable III. It's a big Xbox 360 medieval adventure that mixes the feel of Arthurian legend with Monty Python silliness. Occurs 50 years after Fable II. You're playing the son or daughter of the last game's hero, going on quests and making promises to the people of the land about what you would do if you should one day be king, while your miserable brother (aka the kingdom's ruler) is up to no good. The little-seen latter portion of the game puts you in control of the kingdom and liable to deliver or deny the promises you made in the game's first portion.

It's an action-adventure with numbers removed from the character-attribute-leveling process but with some sort of measure of followers (think Twitter) associated with your advance through the game. It has a swifter combat system that supports brisk weapon-switching, and it has a blink-fast inventory system that appears as a set of interactive closets staffed by a butler voiced by John Cleese.

There Is A Game Inside The Game Of Fable III, And Other Details

OK? Back to the things I learned at a Manhattan showcase yesterday for Microsoft's next big things, Fable III among them:

    1) There's a game in this game. One of the elaborate side-quests in Fable III sucks your hero into a tabletop role-playing game. Shrunken into a new fantasy world your hero gets new, silly perks and upgrades. I earned my hero "+30% self-importance" as I ran around trying to rescue a damsel in distress. As you play "The Game" the Fable characters who invited you into it can be heard talking about the whole affair. They are the game masters, joking about the rules they've created, debating each other's design decisions, declaring at one moment that this is "the worst game ever," and, most ridiculous of all, doing the voice-acting for all of their characters. A Microsoft Fable representative who showed me the game said the quest lasts a good 20 minutes. It is an example of some of the more imaginative excursions available in the game.

    2) You can enjoy some of the benefits of marriage without getting married. I'm referring to money, of course. Fable players who don't wish to marry other characters in the game can still engage in "business partnerships" that will produce some financial advantages.

There Is A Game Inside The Game Of Fable III, And Other Details

    3) Magic is mixable. Your hero's magical powers in Fable III are associated with magical gauntlets. Because your hero has two hands, he or she can wield two gauntlets which emit a combined, mixed spell. I was shown the results of a spell fired by a hero wearing a fire gauntlet and an electricity one. The emitted blast of fire and lightning, fried its targets in two appropriate ways. Any two magics can be mixed, I was told.

I was also reminded yesterday of some other fun Fable III details that I had heard before: characters in the Fable III world will remark on the Fable II exploits of gamers who played the previous Fable game; the romance system will be a little more complex than last time, requiring the player to sometimes do something other than flex repeatedly to get someone to fall in love with them; the dog, a hero's best friend, is back.

There are plenty more details to be learned. We'll be learning them together soon. Fable III launches on the Xbox 360 in North America on October 26.

I read they've ditched the Milo character (which Molyneux was working on) to make a Fable Kinect game. I doubt they'll do anything with Fable III and Kinect and just focus on a new Kinect Fable game. (IMO)

Very much looking forward to this game. What's in the collector's edition? I probably won't get around to playing it til Xmas at the earliest, if not the summer :(

    Seems to be this:
    Contents (as confirmed by Microsoft):

    1. “A new quest: Uncover the mystery of the haunted forests of Silverpines and earn the legendary sword, Wolfsbane, deadly against wolves and balverines.
    2. “Exclusive location: Unlock a new region, ideal for settling down with a family and discovering new treasures.
    3. “Fable III playing cards: Created by Lionhead, these cards depict every type of character in “Fable III,” including Heroes, royals, rebels and villains from across Albion and beyond.
    4. “Guild Seal Coin: The coin features a Good side (blue) and Evil side (red) to assist players in making critical decisions that will impact the fate of the world forever.
    5. “A new dog breed: Renowned for its loyalty, the Boxer is a brave canine companion worthy of greatest Queens and Kings.
    6. “One unique outfit: Unearth one male and female outfit from the mysterious, faraway land of Aurora, a new destination in your “Fable III” adventures.”

    Worth about €10 imo. (I couldn't justify spending €65+)

Looking forward to it a little more now.

    You've read wrong.

Milo is far from ditched and was demoed at TED only a couple of months back.

    No he read right.

Milo was always just a tech demo really. The tech is just going to be incorporated into other games, the team behind Milo and Kate are gone though, some laid off and most working on other projects.

It's €55 in gamestop - been mentioned a few times in this thread.

Anyone used the Kingmaker app for their mobile? Been out a while for Android/Symbian, Lionhead said it was out for iPhone last night but seems to be for UK only. It's like Foursquare but apparently any coins you earn during the game you can bring to Fable 3 when it comes out. (thats what I've gathered from it anyway).

They've it split up into the 2 factions, winning faction gets all coins divided amongst members, well that was my understanding of it.

Don't think there's actually a release date for PC. It's rumoured for late December, but most likely early next year.

They realised Kinect wasn't really suited for it and so basically dropped it with the possibility of adding it in later.

That's a link from August. I haven't heard anything more recent. Some places just haven't updated their release dates yet.

If I recall, the Fable 2 CE was about the same price, and that was because you didn't get like 90% of the stuff that was meant to be in the CE, no figure, and the art cards wound being made a pdf download instead and so on. It was all bit of a farce. I'd be wary of all the promised shinies making it into the box for 55e

I thought the fable 3 demos at the eurogamer expo were the best at the show.

I always thought despite its flaws the single best thing fable 2 did was push the franchise away from bland swords and sorcerers territory and into a sort of strange new imperialism steampunk universe...which fable 3 builds on very nicely, it suits the humour, it suits the game mechanics and its just so damn cool looking.

But yeah I tried the demos at eurogamer. Instantly familar and comfortable but with alot of polish and creativity is how I would sum them up. Yeah none of the individual elments broke new ground, but the package as a whole had good humour and atmosphere and a real sense of being part of something bigger.

I'm not making the mistake of hoping for too much as usual with mr molyneux he promises alot and tends to miss the mark. But purely from my hands on experiance fable 3 moved from a maybe to a first day buy. (but so did vanquish and enslaved so its an expensive month for me)
