    Hey Everyone,

Seen an in-store poster for jobs in Penneys Germany. Anyone know anything about it? They are paying for flights, accomodation and daily living allowances....sounds too good to be true to be honest. It is obviously only Xmas temp staff but strange they are looking for Irish people to head over. Thinking of applying!!

    Anyone know anything about it?

    All the Best

Had an interview for this today it went well but my lack of German could be a problem, basically they're looking for staff here as they're worried they won't get all the staff they need in Germany as the unemployment rate isn't as high over there.

It sounds like it'll be pretty hectic and hard work but the perks sound good, free hotel B&B daily food allowance flights etc. and of course getting to live in Germany for a couple of months! Good luck to anybody who's applied, fingers crossed.

It's such a short period, I would be attracted to this if the position was for longer.

Well, I'd love to learn German so a longer contract would be very attractive. What's the job situation like in Belgium at the moment?

Passing by Penneys today on Mary Street and they were advertising for positions in Germany. They will pay for flights and living accomodation there. I'm curious as to why they'd advertise these positions here and pay for the costs mentioned above? Wouldn't it make more sense to advertise within Germany?

I'm not interested in the positions, I'm working in the same job for the last 9 years but am just simply curious. It wouldn't seem to make sense.

I was in Primark in Germany a few weeks ago. Prepare for some hard work if you do get the job. People are going crazy for cheap clothes and the place was manic. Crazier than Blanch at Christmas! I dont think not having German should be a major issue. If youre put on the floor tidying or in the stocroom, interaction with Germans should be minimum. And in the bigger cities most German speak really good English.

I speak German and I applied 2 weeks ago for the job in question.

    The reply I got

    Dear .....

Thank you for recent application to work for Primark. Unfortunately you have been unsuccessful at this time.

We have received a large number of applicants for this position, and there have been candidates that have applied with more relevant retail experience. So unfortunately, it means you have missed out this time.

May we take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Primark, and wish you luck in your future job search.

    Yours sincerely,

    The Recruitment Team

and I have 10 years of warehousing/stockroom experience btw

So really it does not compute

Feck sake, Really makes you wonder what they wanted? They probley wanted someone with a Masters Degree on "Stores and Warhousing Applications" and maybe going for a Doctrate so you could be the head Health and Safety Officer.

They might of even offered to pay you €10 an hour with those qualifications!! On a serious note though sorry to hear!

    Hey everyone...

I forgot about this thread but to update, I got the job in Germany and have been here the last 4weeks and coming home 23rd! Having a great time, the job itself is basic retail however we are being included in managerial reports so we have an overall view of what is going on in your respective department to restock etc. Primark are treating us really good and are a great employer and there is potential opportunities for us after the Christmas period. Get two days off a week and working 9hours a day which is alright! The shop itself is manic on a Saturday....think of your local Penneys on a Saturday and multiply it by 100 and you get the extent of this store. Scary!!!

Staying in a lovely hotel and our meals are basically paid for everyday so lots of opportunity to save (shopping isn't helping tho!!!) for when we return home.

Hope everyone that applied for this job picked up some other work before the xmas period....I got so many PFO's before I got this it was sickening but my motto is when one door closes another opens!

    All the Best

    Acapella
