    Hi All,

I'm new to all this but I'm looking for a bit of advice . I've been attending the Pre pregnancy clinic in the Mater Hospital as I'm a type 1 Diabetic .On my visit yesterday the Nurse asked me what Maternity Hospital do I intend on going too once pregnant. I hadn't thought much about it till then .I thought they would recommend one to me but they didn't when I asked they said it was up to me which ever one I preferred . So thats the problem I haven't a clue

So if anyone has any advice on the Dublin Maternity Hospital's that would be super. None of my Friends have Kids and my Family all live outside of Dublin so I have no insider information or Knowledge on any of the Hospital's. I would value any advice or information you could give me .

    Thanks :o

Holles St have a very good diabetic clinic and a clinical midwife specialist. Not sure what the other hospitals have on offer but the diabetic care in Holles st is excellent

Why not talk to your GP? they may or may not give your a recommendation, but if you require special care they might.
From what I know all the hospitals are jammers, all of pros and cons.
I am on my third time in the Coombe, found it filthy on first, was not in long enough on second to see, this time I hope I will be as fast as the last time at least if not faster.
Last visit on Friday was surprisingly fast, 1.5 hrs including 'big' scan, midwife visit and consultants visit. was waiting only 10-15 mins each stage.
Should ad I was public each time.

Nothing but good things to say about the Coombe, clean, fast queue's but you always got enough time with doctor and a mini scan each visit. Small wards (max I seen was 7 beds on public, when I was in the Rotunda I was in a 12 bed ward.)

I've never been to Holles Street.

I'm public in the coombe and I had a consultant visit yesterday at 9am. The queues moved very quickly and I was out by 10am.

By coincidence I heard a midwife telling a woman that after she had her bloods taken and her scan done she was to go to the diabetes section.

I had my son in Holles Street, the team there is excellent - there is an amazing midwife there that I can not thank enough, she is amazing. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1985 but also have other medical conditions. You are watched very closely throught the pregnancy. It is very busy, that is about the only bad thing that I could say about it. You should contact the maternity hospital you choose as soon as possible after you find out you are pregnant - they keep a good eye on you.

Hi.As a type 1, and someone who is planning on having a baby as soon as possible, I've received different answers from doctors. One says that i have to attend a pre-pregnancy clinic before getting pregnant, yet i have been told by another that I don't have to, but to let them know when I become pregnant. I have excellant control and hbA1c. What's the real deal????? (These are 2 consultants from the same diabetes clinic:confused::confused::confused:)
