Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Loose gear selector Cbr125

bought my first bike a few weeks back 08 cbr 125, and im having some problems with my gear selecting, i think there might be too much play in the gear selector, before it engages the gear selector pedal moves about an inch (freely) then the final inch engages the gear it's also quite wobbly with a bit of sideways motion.

Is there possibly a spacer missing from where the selector mounts to the side peg, at the moment there is just a cir-clip holding it in place, it's not about to fall off but seems too loose to be factory spec.

    Cheers
    Inch

Sounds normal. Does it return to the midpoint after selection?

yeah it sits and it's mid point fine after, just seemed odd to have to lift the peddle so high to change gear, i have to strain my foot to achieve a full change if not lift my foot off the pedal because the first inch of movement does nothing.

and wasn't too sure about the loose sideways motion feels like it's missing a spacer or something, have you seen that on your own bike/bikes?

There shouldn't really be any sideways movement.

might bring it to a honda centre and see what they think.

Is the changer connected directly to the gearbox, or is it connected to another lever that is connected to the gearbox?

Yea take a pic of the entire linkage and post it up for us to have a look.

dont know to be honest, and havnet taken off the fairings to look any harder at it mainly because i have limited understanding of a bikes clutch and gearbox and even less knowledge about it, if it's any help it seems that it's only the peddle part thats loose and know a whole set of connected parts moving about.

*edit* yeah will post it up later.

No offence, probably best leaving it to the experts so.

sounds like u mite need to adjust the adjuster or tighten it up a tad ,,,for a 08 bike there couldnt be much wrong with the gear selector wear wise ,,,,funny one

i had a play with it last night and there seems to be about enough space for a washer to fit behind the circlip and if that gap was filled it seems like the problem would be solved, so i guess ill try find out if there should be one to begin with, or if i can find one big enough to fit.
Thanks for the input so far, ill be fitting a few things to the bike this weekend so ill get a few pic's then with the fairings off

there is a bit of throw in the gear selection, if I remember correctly (had one years ago)

folks attributed it to being the same gear box from one of honda's 125 motocrossers, which tend to get heavier boot action.. :p

shouldnt be any sideways action though! sounds like you may have found the source of that problem though (missing washer certainly sounds a possibility/probability)
