    Did he tap?

Even if not, how did Mazagatti not see him go completely limp? His whole body went! Fair play to Burkman anyway.

Is it just me or did Fitch refuse to shake Burkmans hand afterward? I really really detest Jon Fitch at this stage. Not even his fights are anything, but he's such a moaning baby, giving out stink about the company that made him a millionaire. You'd swear he was working for minimum wage.

Seemed like there was a quick tap in the replay right at the 4.55 mark.

Terrible refereeing. Never ceases to show how bad of a referee he is.

Since there is talk of a lawsuit against the commission. Why didn't Strikeforce take one against the California Commission for Winslow's performance in the Cyborg / Finney fight.

How is this an example of bad refereeing? Fitch didn't tap and Burkman released him the instant he was out.

Thats surely Fitch tapping at the 4.55 mark? he's out cold like a second later

It's bad because Mazagatti wasn't even aware he was out, what if Burkman didn't realise he was out and kept the hold. A ref of his experience should have jumped in, but he didn't. The guy is a liabilty

But Burkman released him the instant he was out, how could Mazagatti have jumped in?

He clearly had no idea what was going on. He's in there to ensure the safety of the fighters and if it wasn't for Burkman releasing him as soon as he felt him go limp, he'd probably still be in that choke. Even when the released him and stood over him Mazagatti then went in and realised he was out cold. He had no intention of even thinking about checking if Fitch was alright. You think that the refereeing was alright since Burkman did his job for him? Burkman announced the fight was over while Mazagatti was still standing in the corner.

Also, you should all follow @mmaroasted on twitter. He's come up with a few cracking jokes about it all.
Steve Mazzagatti just announced that The Cold War is over. #UFC

RT @MMARoasted Steve Mazzagatti just stepped in to stop the Rodney King beating.

Mazagati is a sh1t ref but IMO this is a case of everyone jumping on the bandwagon with Dana.

Nope, Mazagatti didn't have a fcukin clue what was happening

And what exactly did happen? Burkman had Fitch in a guillotine and he let go the instant he was out. Ya Mazagatti just stood there as Burkman stood up but what exactly could Mazagatti have done?

Like I said before Mazagatti is woeful but I think this is a case of Dana doing his usual tripe.

Everybody here was saying it was **** reffing long before that rant came out.
The fact that Fitch went out has nothing to do with it.

Josh had a pretty tight looking guillotine that had been in place for a while before it hit the amt.
Mazzagatti was standing in the poxy corner. He was miles away and his positioning was terrible, he had no way of seeing if Fitch was tapping and had no way of checking on Fitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,329 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Mazagatti didn't notice that Fitch seemed to go limp, he was raised on his left leg but then dropped. Doesn't necessarily mean he was out, but a good ref would have noticed.

How many times do we see a fighter caught in a tight sub, and the ref will be right down beside him and if necessary will raise the fighters hand to check if they're responsive, or ask them to indicate if they're Ok? Mazagatti wasn't even close, he was standing on the other side, upright and seemingly unaware that Fitch was in a tight spot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,604 ✭✭✭dave1982

Probably the greatest bit of reffing ever in MMA

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,836 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I think Mazzagatti is an awful ref, he needed to be down talking to fitch or checking his arms for limpness but thought this was funny.

Tough rap for Mazagatti, nobody really knew he was out until he stood up imo.

You could say that about most fighters in the game in fairness.

Everyone has their strong set. If you have power, you can beat anybody. If you have strong subs, you can beat anybody etc.....

Didn't Roy turn down a new contract in order to finish his contract on a title implicit win over Miocic and put himself into a better negotiating position?

    Whoops!

Not the point. It's Mazagatti's job to know and if he had done his job correctly, (see post 3443) then he would have known Fitch was out before Burkman stood up.

The fact that even after Burkman stood up and rolled Fitch over, Mazagatti still stood there for a second sums it up.

It was as if he was daydreaming.

But Burkman released the chock the instant Fitch was out? look at the video again Fitch is bracing himself with his left hand and left leg, his right hand is free. Fitch brings his left hand into Burkman elbow, then his left leg slumps to the mat and he goes out. How long is it till Burkman releases the choke? It's actually less than one second. If anything Burkman should be praised for looking after the welfare of Fitch.

1.02 is when Fitch is choked out, 1.03 is when Burkman releases the choke.
