Their first fight reminds me more of two drunks fighting outside the chipper than a "good" example of mma and yet it is frequently mentioned in top 5 lists.

    Because it was f*cling awesome!

If ye are suggesting only the fights mentioned then its not a true respresentation. Just looks as if all the fights are huge brawls. Fights that having exciting ground work that really show how fights can be won on the ground and a variety of finishes should be suggested.

Isn't there already a thread of "must see fights"?

Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman featured boxing, muay thai, wrestling and bjj, I've never seen a fight change levels as much and I think it's the perfect representation of MMA.

Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt featured Sonnen using superior wrestling to nullify Marquardt in order to punch him in the face.

Hughes Trigg II for its sheer legendaryness (thats now a word).

Guida vs Griffin from Belfast. Amazing back andforth fight but mostly on the ground so not just a brawl.

My suggestion would be for a thread which begins at the beginning, maybe videos about the Gracies or UFC 1 or how it all started, and then for it to build from there. Maybe people chip in with stuff about cool fighters from the time, move onto Pride and the great fighters there, Zuffa's takeover the rivalry between UFC & Pride, etc etc...... try to make it a cohesive "Story of..." kinda thread.

I know that's not exactly the easiest to do, but it'd be cool and it would stop the thread becoming just a mish mash of stuff.

Watching random fight videos doesn't really tell a new fan much about the sport.

    Lauzon / Miller
    Silva / Sonnen (1st fight)
    Shogun / Hendo
Griffin / Ortiz (leave out the last fight)
    Griffin / Bonnar
    Liddell / W Silva

Seriously can we not keep this thread for actual news/views/gossip?

There's a thread right here for new people getting into the sport and wanting to know what fights to watch.

Sonnen made a poem for Shogun/Wandy and details emerge of Mayhem's arrest, doesn't sound good.

As for Miller, the female victim found a message on his phone that led to the attack.
Injuries to the alleged victim include multiple bruises covering both arms and both legs, laceration and bleeding above right eyebrow (approx. 1.5" wide), and laceration to the right side of face (approx. 1.5" wide). No property or weapons involved.

Bellator have dropped their women's division.
Might mean a few more names headed towards the UFC soon.

I'd love to see Jessica Eye in the UFC. Fights with Sarah Kaufman and Amanada Nunes would be potential wars

Apparently, Dana White has offered Nick Diaz a fight against Machida at 185. He's waiting on a reply from Diaz.

I thought we were rid of Diaz for good.

Is Dana just being a real smart arse? Diaz moaned about fighting Condit because he ran away and wouldn't engage, so Dana offers him Machida!?!

    Lol

The stuff from Diaz before the fight would be hilarious though.

Hope its not true, Diaz is a jackass. But it would bring in a heap of money for DW if it was to go ahead

I like him as a fighter but he doesnt take his losses pretty well and acts like a tool

A big if but IF Machida didn't have a brutal weight cut I think he would destroy Diaz.

Ariel Helwani to Chael: "Why should people tune in Saturday to watch your fight and watch Fox Sports 1?"

Chael: "Why should they watch it saturday? Well that's when the fight is, if you try and watch it Friday you will look like a dufus and if you try and watch it Sunday you'll look like a Johnny-come-lately."

Machida would be fine. He's not the biggest LHW. Many times he's come in miles under 205. Given sufficient time he'd make 185 no problem.

Great news about Paddy Holohan. Only took 18 seasons and we have an Irish fighter to cheer for! Can't wait for it now, Holohan could have a good chance of going far in it too I'd say.

    He's not the first.

Joseph Duffy & Norman Parke preceded him.

    As did Paul McVeigh.

There's also at least 2 that I know of trying out for the next season :)

Hes said before that he walks around at 208 most of the time, definately a natural 185er

Joseph Duffy didn't get past the preliminary part or did he?

And Parke was fighting for the UK, McVeigh had his nationality as Scottish on the programme. Not really fair to be claiming those lads as Irish when they don't call themselves Irish.
