Actually excited for this fight after that press conference. They have a real personality clash. You'd swear Rampage was the cocky young buck and Jones the veteran with the way they go on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,333 ✭✭✭Tones69

Rampage is cracked in the head, love him. I think he has more of a chance than most people think though, could get interesting :) Deffo worth a few quid @ 3/1

It things like that, that make is roll my eyes when ever people bad mouth the UFC.
When they bought SF, the begrudgers claimed they'll drop fight purses now.

Eh, no. They actually covered every fighter for $50k, thats $20mil

I see that Stefan Struve is fighting Pat Barry in October.

Someone in the UFC has a sense of humour.

Any predictions on how that will end?

A 5 minute nap for Struve I'd say

    Not so sure.

The reach/height advantage for Struve is hard to overlook.

Agreed - will take Struve by sub in this one

Reach is pretty useless if you have bad striking

I agree that he isn't a great striker but his reach makes up for it. His last two wins were TKO and KO against guys who are much bigger than Barry.

He has only gone to a decision once in his 26 MMA fights.

Apart from the fight itself I'm really looking forward to the staredown.

Previously I would of agreed with you, but after his last fight I felt he was exposed big time.

Great video here, normally the kinda video you see of a retired great.

Although i really get the impression that the point of the video is to sow everyone he's not finished (at least he doesn't want to be) and he wants to keep fighting.

The man is a legend. But he's never mixing it with the big boys again. Maybe he should call it a day?

Judge Barney McElholm bemoans influence of Ninja Turtles

_54398286__turtles_ap226b.jpg The judge said too many young men were fascinated by martial arts and Ninja Turtles
A drunken Londonderry man arrested last month while staggering along Rosemount Avenue holding a circular saw later put a police officer in a headlock.
Eamonn Coll, 22, from Inishowen Gardens, pleaded guilty at Londonderry Magistrates' Court to possessing the circular saw and assault.
He committed the offences on 14 July. Sentencing was adjourned.
District Judge Barney McElholm said too many young men were fascinated by martial arts "and by Ninja Turtles".
Coll also admitted possessing herbal cannabis, when three bags of the drug were found on him after his arrest.

Was the judge sitting backwards on his chair like this other current icon?

Am i missing something? How is that court case MMA related?
Just sounds like a nutty judge, and a nuty guy running about Derry with a skill saw

136 has 2 title fights, plus Guillard vs Lauzon, Pettis vs Stephens and Sonnen vs Stann.

137 has the epic card above.

    Then 138 in Birmingham...

Ah come on Phil, what were ya expecting??

The thing is they could put you v me as the main event and people are so fcukin blinkered they'd still buy tickets and it'd sell out.

As long as this trend of going to the event just cos it's over here continues then they'll continue to give us **** cards.

For us to get over we're looking at 150 euro for flights, 200sterling for a pair of tickets, 100 for a hotel plus spends, that's the guts of 1k for a very weak card. No thanks

I had EPIC written in there but didn't want to get too cocky in case it all falls apart with injuries etc :)

Just sounds like a nutty judge, and a nuty guy running about Derry with a skill saw

The judge was blaming the popularity of marial arts for the assualt, and the only example of martial arts he could give was Ninja Turtles. Its funny and everyone loves the turtles

It was coming. I just wonder what took them so long.

Sorry to see the lad go but he'll get big money in other promotions no doubt. He's a big name and a one time World Title contender!

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,322 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I'm always a bit sad to see the early TUF guys leaving the UFC, . But its been quite a few years now, and its about time for a number of years. Those were the seasons that had the most talent, the fact the Jardine, Stevenson etc lasted this long shows that.

Compare that to the likes of Efrain Escudero, won lasted for what? 4 fights. I didn't even notice when he left

Difference between Escudero & Jardine/Stevenson was that he won TUF. Only other TUF winner I can think of that was dropped was Kendal Grove.

I think after 4 defeats Stevenson cant really complain, but with some of the big names of strikeforce moving on(Diaz,Hendo,Fedor) means Joe Daddy could get a fight on the main card there...and after his TUF exploits would be a big enough name/attraction. Or get few wins somewhere else and make it back into UFC in future.
