Does it work out cheaper to get BT sports for a month and then cancel?

Yeah I think that is the best option, get loads of other stuff too and cancel it in August

Ariel Helwani tweeted a few weeks back that he had got an email direct from UFC about a historic event on that date, didnt say what it was in the email but it had the hashtag #ufcfightkit so unless somethings changed thats what it is.

    Edit: tweet below

You serious? I began to wonder why I was no longer seeing Gary Cook and realised he was doing most of the media stuff instead of Gary.

He was tweeting up until yesterday. Seems like it was a rather abrupt departure.

Seems so. He done a short video with the Sun last week, I think, about readers getting priority for an event in Dublin. Incredibly abrupt and a pity but time will tell, who knows why he's left.

For the 8th year in a row, the proposed bill to legalize MMA in New York has failed.

This could be completely wrong as the politics involved is complicated but as far as I remember there was a culinary union that had a massive labour dispute with the Fertitas (owners of casinos employing a lot of cooks, they don't allow any unionisation in their company). The Las Vegas Culinary Union has Sheldon Silver (the speaker for the NY state assembly) in their pocket and he's blocked the legislature coming to the floor for years.

Silver was arrested this year and replaced with another guy who was apparently all for MMA in NY but the assembly ran on too long so most of the voters left Albany before the vote was put to the floor, MMA needs 76/150 votes to go through and they didn't get it.
That's the gist but there are more complicated Republican/Democrat problems to get through too.

The problem with this is that Pro-MMA is banned but unsanctioned events take place in NY all the time and even "Amateur" events that have no medical staff on standby and are being run by people who just care about the bottom line. I reckon it goes through next year anyway so it's no big deal.

Silver opposed the bill, but he didn't have the ability to "block" outright. It got through to the assembly the last few times afaik, but it wasn't passed.
Seems like a over complex system of legislation.

dunno if this has been posted before as I'm a bit of a newbie or bandwagonner :D but it's a 30min show on UFC Dublin with but from behind the scenes.

    it's pretty good though.

Take a look at this, it's a guy i sorta know from back home, he fought last week and won, start from 03:20, he eventually won the fight but IMO that was cheap

Much of a muchness I think. It's not ideal but if the ref didn't stop it he had every right to gain any advantage he can.

Azi Thomas actually looks a solid enough fighter.

yeah, he's solid enough, he had a REAL strange one on a CW prelims card, watch this from 4:50, his opponent turned to the ref, complained of an illegal kick then appeared to pretend to be out cold!!!

I remember that guy faking being out. Disgrace.
The low blow in the first video looked minor, he was making a big deal out of nothing and his own fault for not protecting himself until I was stopped.

Got a question an dont think it warrents a new thread. so conors cutting weight at the moment for july11. what i was wondering is these fellas seem to be at pretty low bf% as it is, so where is the weight been cut from? im guessing they wouldnt want to be losing muscle mass?
Or am mis informed and cutting isnt as drastic as im thinkin. like what would himself be before cutting down to 145? How do they go about cutting the weight?

also everytime at the weigh in straight after coming off the scales they go for fluids, what are they drinkin there and why do they all seem to do it so consistantly?

Here's an article you may find interesting. It basically details a complete weight UFC style weight cut. A guy called Nate Green goes through it under the guidance of nutritionist Dr. John Berardi who worked as an advisor to Georges St-Pierre:

Saw an interesting video the other day (it may have been originally posted on here actually) which showed a small piece on Norman Parke going through his final bit of cutting for UFC Dublin last summer.

He claimed on there that if you sit in a hot bath for 5 minutes, get out for 5 minutes, sit in for 5 minutes, get out for 5 minutes and continue that process for around 45 minutes, you can lose about 6 pounds.

As the guys said above its weight comes from losing water, not fat. So if you are leaner, you've a higher lean body mass, and the more water your body holds. And the more you and squeeze out.

Some cutting protocols start from 5-7 days out, some from 2 days out, but the principle are the same.
edit: Plus they'd start limiting sodium long before they start eliminating water or food.

as dougal would say, ohh thats very cheeky!. so essentially its a pseudo cut so that hopefully in 24h or so after weigh ins they can pile it all back on and be of a bigger build going into the ring. interesting game. how did such tactics develop? is this done in other combat sports with w/classes. Would this be done by amateurs? or lower level fighters? Like the article said, id imagine if done wrong (ie. without the help of professonals chef or dietians) it could do more harm than good.

can understand now why its done and also why mcgregor says he hates it so much. cutting out carbs and still maintaining that level of training must be harsh.

It's a pretty interesting article and I was thinking the same as Old Perry during the week. It's pretty amazing that they get so much of their fitness back too. The guy got 91% of his power test, 80% of his strength endurance, and 105% of his endurance test back.

I'd love it if the guy in the article did more tests though just to see how it effects you overall, 3 tests isn't much really.

I have to say it just doesn't seem right. There has to be a drawback of tiredness, fatigue, higher chance of concussion?

Sounds like an easier approach alright,I've easily cut 10 pounds with water loading and 24 hour fast/no water and a easy 5k.
Yeah, hot baths (often with Epsom salts) are used a lot over sitting in saunas. At the top level, this would be in addition to water loading. I haven’t done either, but I’ve heard baths are less tough.
Mike Dolce was at our gym yesterday, and we talked about this stuff for a few hours. He suggests 30 mins in the bath and then cools down slowly on the edge of the bath. And suggests breaking it up into 2 or 3 baths over the last day and a half rather than trying to go everything at once.
He water cut protocol is different to the Berardi one posted above. It’s much shorter, starts on Wednesday not Sunday. I used the Berardi one for my cut last year, shorter sounds more appealing.

It comes from wrestling. It’s done in most other combat sports. Also in weightlifting. Even at amateurs level (to a less extreme degree).
