Henderson v Melendez and cormier v mir at fox7. Melendez is going to get smashed, mir better get his finger out

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

Mir has a great opportunity to oh wait who am I kiddin Cormier is going to be
    too fast
    too low
    too in control
and too fit for Frank... who is craaaaaaaap at takedowns.

Cormier down to 205 after this will be very taxing on him.... not healthy but if he can do it right he could do damage at 205... he hits so hard and wrestles so well. Possibly does better at HW than he would at 205 coz his mobility and speed and low ctr gravity serves his style well against big HWs. Either way he's a beast nobody will want to fight him... and Cain v Cormier after Cormier get a couple big wins in the UFC would be just such a deadly match up.... why they gotta be mates.... somebody should start some sh1t between them behind their back and make this fight happen : )... hack their Twitter account and say some DidI Hamann type sh1t !

Hopefully the Melendez hype train will now come screetchin' to a halt. Not that I don't like the guy, just think he's very over rated.

I think Cormier is gonna run through Frank Mir. Mir should really take a step back I think, maybe a fight with Miocic or Travis Browne might have been a better move.

Rhonda Rousey tweeted a video claiming the Sandy Hook massacre was a conspiracy. As the cover girl of women's MMA what a daft thing to do. Tweet has since been deleted but in my opinion best thing that could happen is if she losses to Carmouche and the women's division is derailed.

Nothing against women's MMA I'm a fan of it but it should be done right like with Invicta. Not the way the UFC is, riding the Rousey gravy train and only prepared to make prize fights.

Really stupid move by Rousey. I wonder what Dana White thinks of his golden girl now.

So much for Marquardt never fighting in the UFC ever again. DW really shouldn't be allowed talk to the media when he's riled up. He needs a PR specialist.

Can't wait to see how Rockhokd gets on in the UFC. I'm a big fan of his and hope he does well.

Similarly can't wait to see Mousasi in action there. Not only is he a beast at LHW but he could even tear it up at MW if he fancies the cut.

That's some amount of names to add to an already stacked LW division.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,193 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Yeah, i've been dying to see how Mousassi gets on in the UFC for ages now!

He'll beat a lot of the top LHWs IMO and if he went to MW he'd be up there vying for a title shot!

    http://www.ufc.com/media/FX-7--Bisping-Belfort-Weigh-In-Highlight

They look so riled up for this - can't wait !

Hope the real Michael Bisping we saw show up for Chael will turn up tomorrow - that's what he'll need to do to have a chance coz Belfort will NOT let him parry and jab kick combo all night to gas him out as Bisping USED to always do. I'll be delighted if Bisping can pull it off but Belfort is under rated these days by a lot of people who forget how much power is behind those hands and how crafty he is on the deck... he's so dangerous... Bisping will need to hurt him properly on the feet and just use his own under rated wrestling to get off the fence and make space. Haven't seen two fighters so riled up in a while - bring it on!!

Belfort cant seem to go the distance in 5 round fights. Might be Bisping's game plan to bring him to the later rounds. Dangerous thing to do if you ask me.

Gustafson mousasi at ufc in April in Sweden according to bloody elbow. Good fight and good test for mousasi. If gustafson wins then next tit le shot but risky fight cos it will put him back a good bit if he loses

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

    absolutely fukin brillllliant match up!

this will separate the hype from the truth about Mousasi.... hard to call.... literally 50/50 for me in every area. Which means probably have to give Gusto the edge with his reach and possibly his gas but still time to get in top condition before then for Mousasi. 2013 kickin off very nicely in MMA!!

Big step up in class there, imo. He didn't get up to much in UFC last time around, but he's still very dangerous and has a huge amount of experience. Going to be a great test for Gunnar. Looking forward to this now!

Anderson Silvas manager says they're not interested in Weidmann. That's a bit disappointing. It seems they're just looking for paydays rather than meaningful fights.
"(Silva's next fight) is still up in the air man, we don't know who that is, you know, unfortunately Bisping lost which was a big thing but, you know, I'm not too sure. I'm not too sure who could be next, I mean there's a few names out there but I think nothing really stable. There's been a few guys who - you know we want to fight someone who has a little bit of a name, someone that has as big of a name as possible and that's on a winning record or a winning run right now. So, I mean right now it seems like most of the guys with names have had losses very recently. So, when I think about it, like the only thing that comes to mind and I don't even know if that would be a possible fight is, you know, like Cung Le is coming off of three wins or something like that where he's got a little bit of a name, but I mean it's really hard in that division because it's so evenly matched all the opponents on any given day one of those guys can beat each other, so you know, once again whoever the UFC decided we're in.

"I think Chris Weidman, not to take anything away from who he is as a fighter, I think he's a phenomenal fighter but I think I would like to see Anderson fight someone that's a little bit more recognized. I mean I don't think Anderson has anything to gain from that fight other than beating a super tough, unknown guy. He's a phenomenal talent and no disrespect to his fighting abilities, but we would like to fight somebody with a little more recognition and maybe Weidman is maybe a fight or two away, you know what I mean? In hopefully building up that, you know, his following a little bit.

"What is there to gain from us to beat him? Really, I mean I ask you what is there for us to beat him? He's going into that fight, most people, the general public are like ‘Oh Anderson is just fighting some guy named Weidman from New York, you know, he's going to walk through him.' So, if he doesn't walk through him, there's really nothing to gain other than another win and money in his pocket, so I think at this point in his career we need to take fights that make sense. And not that Weidman - once again not taking any credibility away from his as a fighter, he's a phenomenal fighter and I think it will be a good match up, but I just think he - he's been out of fighting for a little bit, you know he's been fighting some injuries. You know ask random people that watch the sport and ask them who Chris Weidman is and see what percentage will know who he is."

I would say its Silva looking for paydays rather than ducking fights. Chung Li would be a joke, but would make silva **** loads more than fighting weidman

    Interesting interview with Tito here.
"[Cyborg] doesn't have much on her. She used to walk around at 170 and she lost some muscle mass just to try to see if she can get lower in this weight to do it. So far, so good. Like I said, she's 160, 165. She bounces back around there. She says she stopped lifting weights the way she does and really just [been] focusing on her jiu-jitsu. She's been training, putting in the time.

"I hope I can put this fight together, man. I'm trying my hardest. I hope Dana [White] understands. I hope Dana is listening to this and understands. I'm trying to get this thing together."

On Ronda Rousey and the UFC women's division:

"I think it should be more about the women's division in general, than about one person. Ronda's fought maybe, what, five times now? Or only five times now? To do that to somebody, it just shows disrespect towards all the other women fighters that are in that weight class.

"I think she's believing the hype a little bit too much. She hasn't proven anything yet."

    On Bellator:

"For now [the tournament format is sustainable]. That's how you make great champions. That's how you solidify who is the best fighter, and they're doing it. They're doing it the smart way. I watch and I see some pretty good fighters in an event. The production is good. The fighters are tough as hell, so I really think they have a future."

On PEDs and Forrest Griffin hijacking his final post-fight interview:

"I was pissed. I was just pissed for my fans, too. That was very disrespectful, but you know, the drugs [Griffin] was on, or the steroids he was on at the time, maybe it just made him act wacky and that's why he did what he did. I really think that it just shows. I'm sick of [sending] that message out to our youths that want to become UFC fighters, to say that it's okay to use testosterone if your levels are a little low.

"I tested negative every single time they tested me. They tested me randomly. They tested me before my fights, a month before my fights, two months before my fights. They've always tested me, and I've never thought that [PEDs] were something that I needed. I've watched a lot of the guys like Mark Coleman, how they'd gas so damn quick, and I thought, ‘Why would I want to do that to my body. Why would I want to eat my body up or destroy my muscles.' And I didn't want that to happen.

"It's starting to become a bigger and bigger problem, I think. You're starting to notice fighters are a lot more shredded than they ever have been in their career. Of course it's going to give them an edge. How would you like to be 35 years old and feel like you're 24 years old, fighting, when you have no more pain, soreness, achiness, and you're able to push yourself over the limits because of something you're on. Fighters do it all the time."

On his relationship with Dana White and the UFC:

"I learned a lot from him. He taught me a lot. There was a time when SEG owned the company, and Dana sat with me. We negotiated pay-per-view, a bigger chunk of money, and he was like, ‘This is the way it is. If you don't want it, we'll go somewhere else.' And hung the phone up. He turned around a looked at me and goes, ‘Dude, I hope I made the right decision for your future.' And at the time, I go, ‘Dana, I trust you. I think you did and I stand behind you.' And then all of a sudden he got a play to be president, and all of a sudden I found myself in the same shoes as Dana, because I didn't have a manager. I was making my own decisions and I got hated on because of it. I got talked down upon. There was so many different things that made me look bad on The Ultimate Fighter, time and time again. There was just so much other stuff that just came about, that I think we're even. I think he got me back ... for things that I said about him that I probably shouldn't have said. For wearing the shirt that I did during the weigh-ins, that I probably shouldn't have did. I'm an emotional guy, I wear my heart on my sleeve, man.

"Of course I [regret those decisions]. I wish I would've handled myself a little differently.

"You still see that Dana is still maybe hurt by the things I've said in the past and can't forgive. He says we're cool, he says no problem and everything, but, as I look, and never being invited to UFCs at all. I used to a long time ago. Just a lot of little small things, but I don't take it personally. It's business."

On why Matt Hughes and Chuck Liddell have UFC jobs, but he doesn't:

    "That's a great question. I don't know. Maybe there's still hatred.

"Of course [I wanted a job]. Who wouldn't want a job with the UFC? It's the greatest promotion in the world. And I think I could do a wonderful job doing it. I don't know, helping the fighters with marketing. A lot of the fighters don't understand it. They come and they fight, and they're forgot about. There's a lot of things that could be done to make fighters more interesting for the fans to, you know, fall in love with and really follow their careers closely."

On injuries and the possibility of him coming out of retirement:

"I still have to get another knee surgery. Before I fought Forrest, nine weeks before, they took out 50-percent of my Meniscus. And then during the fight, hitting a double or defending a shot -- I think it was when I hit a double -- I re-tore my ACL. So I have to get my ACL redone on my right knee. I'm just sick of getting surgeries.

"I'm not coming back, man. Neck surgery, I just got through five weeks ago. I'm still recovering from it. It's difficult, it's hard. The pain hurts still. Not like it was before, of course, so now I'm just kind of waiting for UFC insurance to take care of it. First they said yes, then they denied it, and so, I don't know. I'm kind of just waiting, just sitting in limbo on a bill that was supposed to be taken care of. I thought UFC insurance took care of us fighters, if we fought and got injured during the fight, and almost comes to find out, [it's] not. I'm second guessing, wow, is this really happening right now. Hopefully it's a dream.

"I'm not 100-percent sure [how much the bill is for]. I think it's something like $90,000. They denied the claim, so I'm just waiting. I don't know, Dana said he'll take care of it, so Dana is a man of his word. Hopefully it'll just take a little time for them to make it happen."

On the possibility of aiding in the creation of a fighter's union:

"I really don't think so, just because the UFC doesn't want it to happen. Dana doesn't want it to happen. And if I do it, then it becomes, ‘Here we go, Tito is trying to destroy the UFC again.'

"Yes [the fighters need it], so you wouldn't have to worry about denying a claim on their insurance. That's maybe just the tip of some of the things. There's a lot of things that fighters go through right now that they're afraid to say something. But it is what it is.

"It's never going to happen. When we were all at the highest part of our careers, we could have done it. I was the only person saying something, B.J. Penn was the only person saying something, and everybody else just kept hush-hush."

If fans mocking his injuries bothers him:

"Not at all. Just because none of these people have ever fought with injuries, or put their lives on the line no matter what, and still performed. I still did, and I think I performed well with the injuries I had. I kept saying the truth every time I fought. If I was injured, I was going to say it. Yeah, I was hurt, but I still came out and I fought. I put on a good fight, I put on a show, and I did what I wanting to do. And I think that's why fans respect me so much."

Possible Strawweight division in UFC in the future.

The UFC recently embarked on a scouting trip to Mexico, where it started the search for fighters in a potential 115-pound strawweight class. A future season of TUF based in Mexico could be filled with fighters from the search, and then the division ultimately could be introduced to the UFC as a whole.

"It went very well," said UFC president Dana White recently. "A lot of guys showed up, it was very successful, and the guys we sent down were very excited with what they saw."

"The way that Brazil caught on fire and took off – Mexico's taking a lot longer than I thought it would, but it's coming. The culture in Mexico, they're fighters. The greatest fighters in history come from Mexico, and there's that whole famous Mexican style of fighting – and you see it some of the guys we have here now. It's getting there slower than I thought it was going to, but when it all comes together, it's going to be amazing."

"You had some people talking smack here and there (about the flyweights). But if you're a real fight fan, how do you not like Ian (McCall)? How do you not like Joe (Benavidez)? How do you not like (Johnson and Dodson) that were here tonight? When people say s--- like that to me, it's hard for me to respond without being a real a--hole. It's really hard for me."

Having watched Norman Parke winning TUF smashes and watching Conor Mcgregor's most recent KO win i am just curious to know who would come out on top in a fight between both.

My knowledge of Irish MMA is very limited so would be interested to know an experts view.

So Parke vs Mcgregor who takes it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,437 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

I think McGregors striking is a step ahead of Parke. Not to take anything away from Norman but I think McGregor would be too much for him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,569 ✭✭✭✭Mr. CooL ICE

I've only seen a handful of both fighters' fights, but I reckon its McGregor all the way. His main advantage over Parke would probably be his speed and unless he gets caught in the clinch, he would UD Parke IMO.
