Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I like it. Pretty clear, good hierarchy of headline and content, makes use of some good UI things like content scrollers. Took inspiration from guardian.co.uk me reckons.

A 1,000,000% improvement on the old one. (which wouldn't have been difficult)

I'd rather my tv licence fee go to the IT department or web design crowd they use, rather than towards the salaries of the arsehole presenters, or towards another crap program.

    So i like it.

Agree. Old one seemed too image / flash dependent, taking forever to load and cluttered with tons of random crap you didn't care about.

RTE had a user-friendly, well laid out and pleasing on the eye which I would of given 8 out of 10.

Now, the site layout is way "too busy" with way too much clutter and poor layout. Big Mistake RTE. 4 out of 10.

This site has broken most of the rules of web usability.

Obviously, some jobsworth in there had to justify their wages by meddling with the existing site.

It's a very poor design. There is far too much happening on the homepage, the same with the news site.

Needs a revision to be honest, and a big tidy.

I hate it, they;ve made it worse than it was before, its still an absolute cluster-fest of a home page, too much going on, and hating the layout of it! Yuck! :(

There is a thread somewhere else here about how they nicked the BBCs HTML

anyone see a court case coming?

Its a bit slicker looking than what was there before, but then what was there before looked like a website from 1996.

I notice the sport section still uses the old design

In the Web Design forum. New RTE layout

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/gel/

It's not as bad as people make out. They have improved a fair bit. There are still UX/UI problems with it and it's not looking like it'll be made accessible anyday soon.

However, when the BBC changed their style, almost everybody slated it yet when the design changes again later they'll likely do the same slating.

    From their feedback:
I have worked in newspapers for nearly 35 years. At EVERY design change, we were flooded with letters and phone calls from people who hated the new look. If we spoke to any at length, we always found, without exception, that what they hated was not the new look but change.

At one such exercise, in 1995, we kept the names and contact details of those who had been upset and, five years later, at the next wholesale change, were tickled to discover that these same people sent much the same letters, complaining that they had been robbed of a design they loved (despite complaining that they hated it five years previously).

That's it in a nutshell. People hated the old website but if they had come up with a world beating new design people would still give out just because its different. Can anyone give another news/similar type of website which they think does a better job and doesn't look cluttered?

    So is the motors section.

And the navigation is sh!te, if you say click entertainment, there's no obvious link to get back to the RTE homepage.

    grrr

I hate it, not because of looks, because it does look great but simeply because every page repeatst he header as the first paragraph in the article!

Stupid! And the chilean miner story the other day has so many typos, errors, general parargraph formatting problems! Proof read people! c'mon!!!!

    for example today:

The High Court has made no order for costs in a privacy and defamation case taken by Ruth Hickey against the Sunday World.

    and repating directly underneath:

The High Court has made no order for costs in a case taken by Ruth Hickey against the Sunday World.

Almost all of the time! Its annoying!
