I'm from near Athboy but live in Galway, depends on your age but my favourite spot in Athboy is Carty's good food good live music and a cool bar.

Cartys would be the best place for grub IMO. For drink in general, Athboy has a great selection of pubs.

Daly's is a bit rough around the edges but the food is very nice and tasty. Have to say that Carty's is spot on for food too. The Darnley does a very nice evening bar menu. Steak Diane is delish

Ps Welcome to Athboy hope you enjoy living here

i used to live in galway ..am from athboy now living in wicklow
    waxies ...rough crowd
cosy corner ..serious drinkers not the nicest crowd either
ollies ..new if they got rid of the old crowd i hear it could be alright
    dorans..the poser place
    darnley..quiet and relaxed good grub
saddlers...most popular middle age crowd but can be jammed
    callaghans...dont bother
floods...gaa bar you'll get hit by a ball flying round
dalys...not going to comment as i'll probably be sued(lol)
    fagans,, again wouldnt bother
carthys...was old and quaint but ruined it with a huge plasma food good but was in it at 10 on a sat night there recently.six of us were the only ones in the place

try them all you'll soon pick your fav

I recommend Molly's Kitchen at the back of McElhinney's for breakfast, lunches and beverages. A great place to meet for a coffee.

Fagans is the best pub for a game of pool anyway.

Fagans is great from the point of view that it's a real regulars pup. The owners are very nice and friendly. Whenever the father in law is up for a visit we will always venture to Fagans for a few and there is always a bit of banter going on

Have to disagree with your view on Callaghan's; Pat's a legend.
