Central heating : question

We have an oilfired central heating system. This week we switched on the central heatings ystem for 30 mins and the radiators on the ground floor and upstairs heated up fine. yesterday, we switched on the heating again but the downstairs radiators did not heat up. Today, the same thing happened : the upstairs radiators…

We have an oilfired central heating system.

This week we switched on the central heatings ystem for 30 mins and the radiators on the ground floor and upstairs heated up fine.

yesterday, we switched on the heating again but the downstairs radiators did not heat up.
Today, the same thing happened : the upstairs radiators heat up but the downstairs radiators remain cold.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Any solutions?

Have you separate controls (thermostats) for upstairs and downstairs?

If it is an open system with a small tank in the attic beside the big one then I think your pump is not working and gravity is sending the heat upwards.

No.

The only control that I'm aware of is a timer located in our kitchen.
The boiler is located outside the house and we had the boiler fully serviced last february.

What is perplexing is that the heating system worked perfectly when we turned on the heating earlier this week.

But since yesterday only the radiators upstairs have worked.
