First Timer Builder needs advice on gaming PC

Hi All,

Need some advice on my first build.

I have a budget of about €1600 which needs to include an OS and monitor. I would prefer to buy from a site that charges the Irish VAT rate.

Looking for opinions on the following

Ok done a bit more research and here's what I've come up with:

Thanks for the info Monotype. Not sure what site I am ording from yet. I might order for muliple sites if needs be. How are komplett with delivery times these days? I was hearing some bads things about them just after they were taken over.

can you claim back the vat meaning if you buy in england you wont have to pay the vat yes

Looks similar to a build i am making at the moment however some advice if you want to take it.

I would consider the following parts instead of what you've listed.

1: i7 CPU, the i5's are fine but if your upgrading now you're better off getting the i7 its faster. go for the i7 950.
2: Memory, I would go for Tri Channel 6g DD3 2000mhz memory
3: SSD's, get x2 60 gig 6g SATA drives. They have come down in price big time and you can run 2 of these bad boys in RAID0 = transfer speeds of 500mb+ depending on the mobo.
4: I would get an x58 chipset board, this has all the latest and greatest parts, USB3, 6g SATA, high FSB speeds too.
5: Buy an all in one CPU water cooled cooler. You can get ones on OCUK, they rock and will keep your CPU cold.
6: Buy a 24" LCD, with that GPU you'll want a bigger screen to utilise the GPU fully.

With the above you can Over Clock your system easily in excess of 4ghz.

For parts go to www.overclockers.co.uk they have high standard parts that normal sites dont get. You'll have lots of parts on offer some at extreme prices. I've been building systems for years and I only ever use OCUK. Komplett suck balls as their range of parts are expensive and only use mainstream parts rather than enthusiast parts.

All in on the config it should cost you about 1200 euro.

These any good? Not too sure about water cooling as its my first build and don't know how complicated this is to install. Would the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler be a good alternative to water cooling or should I bite the bullet

If you have a VAT number then you can also get companies within the EU to remove the VAT at point of sale.

i7 build you just need to ad a cpu cooler of your choice its rreally easy to fit a h50 cpu cooler and they are worth it there is no need for the 950 as you will be overclocking the 930 to 4ghz and no need for 2000mhz ram as wen you overclock your cpu you will overclock the ram also to 2000 mhz no problem [IMG][/img]

Cheers for that massy. Think im gonna order something very similar to this tonight. Does everything required to build the computer come with the seperate parts i.e do you get all the cables you need or everthing you need to install the cooler with the h50 cpu cooler?

A sightly bigger 24" LG for less money? I remain to be convinced that LED backlighting is worth the price premium over LCD personally.

I'm against you. Whens the last time you saw white? like, real white. Colours are much much much nicer, black is more black and white is more white. And takes less power to run. Then again, up to OP, but I prefer LED

Ring them up and ask basically, most places don't have a set procedure for it in my experience. Some might have a comment box you can add the VAT number to, but it will vary.

I didn't claim they weren't any better, just that I am unconvinced that the benefits are worth an additional 60-80 euros or so (for a 23 inch model)
