Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Single person on dole. Gets married to person who is working, is the whole situation re-assessed at this point? means tested...etc?

JA. checking it out for a relation. One half earns gross €48,000 so would you think that means the other side will lose everything?

Yeh the other half will more than likely get nothing or very little! Im not married but when I was living with my boyfriend we were judged as a married couple, my earnings at the time were in the early 30's and he was coming out with 28e per week and no hope of getting rent allowance etc....

But will the working half not get extra, as they can use the unemployed partners tax credits, therefore earning enough extra to make up for loss ?

i don't know, but it sounds to me like they'd be better not getting married at all

marriage doesn't really make a difference, when they are living together(co-habiting) thats when the rules kick in

Yeh they would get their PAYE tax credit and their standard rate cut off point would increase if thats the way they wanna work it, more often than not it doesnt work out that beneficial to them both cause it would prob actually work out a few hundreds euros or so a month compared to a full social welfare payment each week for the spouse.....

I thought you could only transfer tax credits if you were married.

You can only transfer their personal tax credit and then what every they want of their standard rate cut off point (STCOP) once they talk to revenue.....the revenue will advise...once they are married....

co-habiting is judged the same but not for tax purposes....
