Jeez I'm bricking it now. First time I've ever done a race where I'm nit going to it from my own place! Trying to work out if I should bring porridge in case I can't get it, if I need more glucose sweets cos I can't tolerate gels, and trying to ignore the persistent ache in my left leg - full blown taper madness for no 15400 :(

They are not handing out gels but they are handing out fruit and nuts. I know in DCM last year when I got an orange square from a spectator at mile 18, it was the best thing ever!!

Have got another fcuking cold. FML :(

It's Tuesday, race is Sunday, you'll be fine. You don't need to run at all between now and then.

I find those instant porridge pots where you just add boiling water do the job rachel. Gross but handy to have and light to pack in your suitcase.

    Bib 4644

If you see me say hello. I hope to get to the George Payne but it may be tricky as I will be waiting on a 5 hour + finisher.

I will probably line up either a fair bit behind the 3.15 pacer. I'd like to stay out of the initial jockeying for position around the pace groups.

On the porridge front: I didnt bring any when i was there a few years back and the ones i did manage to find were muck. I was sorry i didnt bring a small amount of the ones i normally use!

Probably going to bring a few sachets of Quick Oats or something with me. Don't want to take any chances, I love my porridge!

Just managed to bag 5 tickets beside each other from the Barcelona website.

For all those still interested there are loads available at the moment here

You might have to search around to find some beside each other.

What do you think are the chances of finding an Irish bar with Setanta sports on Saturday night to get the Tipp vs Waterford game?

I've got two .... maybe three tickets available that are "adjacent" (i.e. not gaurenteed to be side by side)- I need to pick up the tickets when I get to Barca. If interested PM - my brother would like to go but is not keen to go alone.

1 more thing not to forget all you Barcelonites, seemingly a swim post-rehydration session is essential. With the weather looking like it could be 16 deg on Sunday, bring your swimming togs!

At bottom of Rambla, not been there but site seems to be up to date with all sports for this weekends.

Those who are heading to Camp Nou, be aware public transport in the area is hectic when busy as there is only one line heading towards town, add an hour from full time to get anywhere in the city.

Best of luck all! I'm very envious. A couple of tips from memory:
    1) The course is measured in kms only, so forget your mile based pace-bands
    2) Once you leave the beach section (around mile 21.5 - 23 there is an uphill drag for around a mile), and another drag around mile 25, so save some energy!
    3) The expo hall is open on race morning for all runners (it's where you deposit your bags) and it has lots of floor space for stretching, applying the last but of sun-cream or body-glide. etc.
    4) Get into your race pen early (at least 20 minutes). It's quite a squash, and if you leave it too late you will find yourself stuck on the outside of the pens.
    5) There are some quiet stretches around miles 20-25, with not too many supporters. Listen out for the Irish music around mile 23, which marks where one of our Irish brothers fell a couple of years ago. Spare a thought for him.
    6) Look up! There are some fine examples of Gaudi architecture along the route.
    7) If you're getting the metro after the race, expect lots of steps!
    8) Lots of tall buildings, to play havoc with your GPS-based watch. A pace band (in kms) is worth its weight in gold, if you lose your GPS signal. 'Time' is a handy field to display on your watch along with a pace band.
    9) Enjoy yourself! Keep smiling! It will keep your heart rate down!

    Hi All,

I'm running the marathon on Sun. Flying out Sat afternoon. Training as gone well albeit, I did the art o'neill challenge in Jan and the legs are still feeling the effects but otherwise looking forward to the day. Hoping for a sub 3.15 time but might be wishful thinking if the weather is warm! Rest up and carb up! All the best!

Think the Irish lad died between miles 21-22 just before the train station after you leave the promenade road, ye won't miss it anyway.
There was a Tricolour and music playing last year, terrible tragedy.

As Krusty says best to manage course in 5km intervals I'd say.

As per usual Krusty is on the money... Something small to add....After the marathon i'd recommed getting a quick massage thats on offer.. The queue moves fairly quick and the legs will feel alot better after it...Then ye can jog to the boozer :)

Very important ..VERY. I didnt see one single toilet from mile 9 til about mile 25. So be careful to not overhydrate and ladies if you need facilities you need to watch out for coffeeshops etc.

Cups are standard here. The "art" I was taught was to grab the cup by the neck, empty to about 2/3 if need be, squueze the neck to form an () shape and drink from the narrow end - no water up the nose, down the front.
