Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Got a Galaxy S over the weekend and went to update from 2.1-update1 to froyo as soon as I got it home. Downloaded Keis and while it said the phone was update-able, when I clicked update, it gave me the below, saying the devices version cannot be updated.

So does this mean the update isn't actually available??

It means the update has not been made available yet for whatever reason. What service provider are you with, I'm on 3 and still waiting, keep checking for an update over the next few days.

    Samsung released it ages ago.

    Your problem is with O2.
I really don't mean to take a cheap shot but your lack of knowledge on this sums up The Carphone Warehouse.
They really need to stop pushing phones and contracts based on what is most profitable for them, and sell what is best for the customer.
I'm with vodafone and my Galaxy S has 2.2 for a couple of weeks now.

Wonder if that's any indication for Three.

So tempting to flash with Odin, some cyanogen mod. I've heard amazing things, but I'm actually scared of bricking the phone.

    Again.

Got fed up waiting for the o2 update on Kies and fed up with Kies in general so I flashed via Odin. Got the OCLF and all working now. Lovely, it's given a new lease of life to the phone.

Can you point me to the steps you used to flash with Odin.
I am getting frustrated with the 2.2 that I upgraded to via Kies.
I don't really want to get into (unofficial)upgrading - I had enough of that with the Blackberry Storm - but the lag and the required resets etc are getting to me.
Also I presume you loose Touchwiz and all the other proprietary samsung stuff - which I don't really use. Anyone know what happens if you try to restore a Titanium backup onto a different version of the os.

quick question guys...I'm with 3 also and waiting impatiently for the upgrade, but what I wanted to know is if I should have gotten a version 2.2 upgrade also .
I have seen people mentioning both versions, so i'm just curious as to whether there is something amiss with my phone etc seeing as i'm still running v 2.1 ..

also i've tried the regedit fix but my phone keeps resetting itself to 3IE so i'm not sure if that's something i'm doing wrong or if Three have cottoned onto it..

    any help greatly appreciated..:)

    Hi Guys,

Has anyone here with Win 7 64 bit got it to update?
I've tried a good few things but still stuck at the MTP drivers...

Dont have easy access to a different OS at the mo.
Nearly considering setting up a dual boot on my PC to get around it :(

Charging now so hopefully all goes well...

Are you running latest Kies version. Maybe if you check that it might resolve it.

Rte player working fine. Not tried any other flash stuff yet!

Give it a few days/weeks and after you've installed some apps. :( It does start to lag again. (especially the contacts for some unknown reason!)

I ended up installing the voodoo lag fix. Flying along nicely ever since!

Can't get my phone to connect to kies (v1.5.3.10101_102 Windows 7 32bit) just get Connecting to Device in Kies and phone says it's connected. See lots of different info on this on the web - wondering how people here got it to work - 'cos it's bugging the crap out of me.....

Disconnect the phone & goto Settings > SD Card & Phone Storage > Unmount SD Card.
Reconnect to KIES & it should install driver & connect ok.

Angel I'm also on 3 and see no update available, but my wifes 3 phone is allowing an upgrade.

The following info may help let people know which firmware builds are upgradable on 3 and which aren't.

    Firmware Version: 2.1-update1

    Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
    Baseband Version: I9000NEJG1

    thanks for posting..that's interesting.
Mine is unfortunately the exact same as yours ( 3IE etc) same firmware, basband version etc. I'm getting really impatient to be honest. As much as I love the phone - my husband got the htc desire and the flash player and quality on it is amazing and i'm just hoping that 'eventually' my samsung will be as good as it..
I'm just wondering now if it's a problem with the version we bought etc and if we will ever be able to get the update..:(

You could try the following, keep the phone connected and in the Kies GUI there is a pull down menu at the top left, click on the Kies logo.

In the menu select Driver Recovery, this worked for me and I've never had a problem connecting my phone since

    Hi
I'm also on PDA:JG2/PHONE:JG1/CSC:3IE and like you am getting very annoyed with 3, surely someone from 3 should let us know what's going on, I see Vodaphone seem to be very good at keeping there customers advised, what a waste of time looking each day and hoping it will work. I really like the phone but if I don't get the upgrade soon will seriously consider getting an IPHONE from Vodaphone

  • Registered Users Posts: 334 ✭✭crimsonfire

I'm a little confused . My firmware is the same also (JG2/JG1) so does that mean I can never get the update or just not yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 bigears1

I assume its just not there for our version yet, anyone from 3 out there ?

Try and run the Kies program first. Wait a minute and then connect the phone to the USB. See if it connects - may take a minute.

Your computer may be setup not to launch Kies automatically when you plug the phone into the USB.

I wonder would using the registry hack with the updatable '3' phone details still lead to warranty issues? (i.e. PDA:JG3/PHONE:JG1/CSC:JG3)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

As regards getting Kies to work, what worked for me was using the original launcher TouchWiz (I was using LauncherPro).

Then when I selected Kies Mode a screen popped up on the Galaxy stating I was connecting in Kies Mode.

Worth a shot, it worked for me. Afterwards I just switched back to LauncherPro again.

I just tried it, doesn't work. The registry hack doesn't work for the latest version of Kies. I think you need to go back to version 100 for it to work. The registry key keeps getting over written after you change it, with the new version of Kies.

Reg hack with change to "LocalVer" isn't working? Damn.

Don't have cable with me today so can't check it.

check SGS first - select settings >> about phone >> usb settings. ensure that Samsung Kies has a green dot (selected) if not select and return to home screen.
Launch Kies programme - attach SGS to computer and it should connect, if not disconnect from PC and plug in again
    good luck

thanks for that, it had the green dot beside it. just tried it there again and it's just not connecting at all. also when i remove the usb it says that the mtb cannot be disconnected as its still running or something. rahh!!

Just one other thing, pull down the notification screen (slide from the top down) and see what it says, it should say USB connected, if it does'nt select it and see if it say something about mounting the USB (not quiet sure what the wording is) if it does - select it and return to the home screen, if it is connected properly an icon of a USB connector should display on the screen

To reply to the guy that is having trouble connecting to kies try this out mate http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Connect-Samsung-Galaxy-S-with-Kies-on-your-PC

I am with '3' and they do not know a thing at all i am having a different issue now i can update the firmware but when i go to i get "Failed to convert to upgrade mode please try later".

I try again and it says go to recovery mode so i do that but then when i reconnect in recovery mode i just get the side to side moving box in kies saying connecting and never does

    Any ideas people

At this stage Froyo is almost old news.

Nexus S specs were released today/yesterday/whenever

Looks like SGS was a prototype for the NS. Specs are very similar. Hopefully Gingerbread Roms will leak and be modified soon enough for those of us with the SGS.

    Hi guys,
I'm on the 3 network, logged onto Kies today, upgraded firmware to 2.2 no problem at all.
It seems like the phone is a LOT slower though, took 5 seconds for it to open the app screen. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Same here after i upgraded on Vodafone.
Do a hard reset (dial *2767*3855#)
    Sorted mine out.
Make sure you back up your apps.
Music and photos will be OK tho.
