Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Welcome to the clash of the two managers whose teams contested the 2005 European Cup final. In Gerard Houllier's head.

Houllier gets a bad press, though. Liverpool might be a shambles now, but they were in an arguably worse state when Ged took over in 1998. Within three years, they'd won three cups, had the meanest defence in the country, and would soon take a serious tilt at the title. OK, so he then underused the magnificent Jari Litmanen, substituted Didi Hamann at Bayer Leverkusen to ruin their 2003 Champions League hopes, and decided to sign El Hadji Diouf instead of Nicolas Anelka. But that's still one of the most successful managerial reigns in recent English football history; what Aston Villa would give for a return like that now. What Liverpool would give for it, too, but that's enough of them for this week.

Carlo Ancelotti, meanwhile, needs no such justification. And no wonder. Just look at that CV.

Anyway, this, hopefully, will be a belter. Villa Park is fast becoming Chelsea's bogey ground: they've only won one of their last 11 Premier League matches here. But Chelsea can point to last year's 7-1 disembowelment of Villa at Stamford Bridge, and a 3-0 shoeing in the FA Cup semis, as more of a reliable form guide.

Still, Chelsea having lost here this time last year, they won't be too happy to be missing Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Saloman Kalou and Alex. Villa, on the other hand, only have Gabriel Agbonlahor missing. Bring it on.

    Kick off: 5.30pm.

Aston Villa: Friedel, Beye, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Ireland, Downing, Ashley Young, Carew.
Subs: Guzan, Cuellar, Bannan, Sidwell, Delfouneso, Clark, Salifou.

Chelsea: Cech, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Essien, Malouda, Kakuta, Anelka.
Subs: Turnbull, Bosingwa, Zhirkov, Van Aanholt, Bruma, Borini, McEachran.

Its a very big day for the young boys - Mikel, Kakuta and our soon to shine brazillian maestro images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSebub2k7C4WJaL2fcCzVEYWvV8iliqthsX-XFq_X1niZmjPjQ&t=1&usg=__Kle9DAHDymf51BV47Jpgnopnyos=

It will be a tough game, Villa are always tough to break down and I think it will be reinforced under Ged.

I'm going to say 2-1 Chelsea.

Villa are a decnt side but Chelsea will still be favorites to steam roller them.
I'd say 4-1 or 5-1 to Chelsea although I'd happily see Villa prove me wrong.

    Glazers Out!

Well out of order reprimanding Essien for anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

Chelsea beginning to control the ball, playing with nice class, but not quite breaking through,
<Malouda's> been the stand out performer so far imho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

We have been quite poor so far.

there is one thing that bugs me about Chelsea recently, pretty much every time we get a set peice either corner (although to be fair 2 of malouda's corners were decent today) or Free, the ball very seldom beats the first man, it baffles me? do the team not practice set peices in training or somthing?

Come on Chelsea! We really need to pick up 3 points especially with UTD handing us the incentive earlier and if we draw City can go to within 2 points of us if they win!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,875 ✭✭✭ShoulderChip

yes disastrous - even if it is a draw against Villa, City will only be two points behind us now tomorrow.

    LOL. GET IN.

    Thanks Villa.:D

Based on the chance at the end maybe, overall no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,405 ✭✭✭Lukker-

Not a bad result considering we are missing half our team. Really hate the way Anelka drops deep even when he's playing lone striker, it just doesn't work. Anyway, we lost here last season so that's an improvement.
