Well we do generally wait until the CMods actually ask us, but seeing as you're so eager the big green go button has been pushed. And may god have mercy on your soul.
Good luck to both yourself and kotj, two excellent additions. While it's been a slow, and for some frustrating process, it's important that we get the mods right in a forum such as politics and rushing appointments just to fill places isn't fair to the other mods of the forum or the posters there. Scarily, that's what I already do. I have someone complaining in Feedback that I banned 22 posters in an hour on Saturday - not quite, but the fact that someone can believe that indicates the level of banning that's currently already in operation. The thread closure/merging/deletion rate is also very high.
To be fair, you are right. Hopefully the new mod additions will help you combat it even further, as at the moment, with the amount of new threads and traffic the forum is getting it probably feels akin to fighting back an unstoppable horde of angry ranting zombies.
I'd probably go the deleting route. I think even seeing 'teh funneh' posts only encourages others.That is an issue. Another issue is the question of whether to delete anything that's worthless, or infract it and leave it so people can see it?It's a good thought, but there seems to be a reluctance to create sub-forums at the moment.
What about my suggestion to use the existing Paul Gogarty debate thread. I know Paul is about to have a lot more free time on his hands, but I don't think he'll mind if we use it 0 -

With respect Zaph that's all very well, but that really doesn't explain how it takes this long. Especially given the pretty heavy traffic in one of the most frontline representative entry point forums on boards. Where it's left to one or two mods who are trying to fight the fire and take the brickbats evidenced in this thread.While it's been a slow, and for some frustrating process, it's important that we get the mods right in a forum such as politics and rushing appointments just to fill places isn't fair to the other mods of the forum or the posters there. Now if the current mods didn't offer up names until this last week, then OK, but it seems this process has gone on for quite a while, or at least out of proportion to the task involved. Clearly as has been said earlier in the thread by those within the process this has been frustrating for them where they're bumping threads up the line about this. Even moreso as I count two admins already on the mod team who would know what's what at this stage.
Rushing appointments is all very well, but if the co mods of the forum have a fair idea of who they need and want is the forum and after all they're the ones who actually know the forum and it's needs and have to deal with newcomers. So if they offer up names, the not fair on the other mods doesn't really compute. Plus if they're already existing mods, then why this delay? Quite a few completely new mods were created within the same timeframe(obviously we're not privy to how long that took). Existing mods should be pretty much a given as far as being OK(myself, Terry and a couple of others excluded

If it's a case of too much admin overhead(which is well understandable considering your workload), or some admins are MIA due to RL stuff(even more understandable) then either new admins need to be created, or the process of OKing mods has to be extended to make up for this kind of thing. Otherwise it will happen again.
FWIW Z this is not a reflection on you. Not even close. I've more than a little affection for you on here and RL. You're one of the best actual moderators, never mind admins anyone could wish for as far as application and consistency and dedication. No, you're absolutely correct, the whole process did take too long. Names were originally submitted to the admins on 7/11, and it's taken just over 2 weeks to get all the new mods installed. In fact two of the new mods were approved the following day, however the CMods preference was to install all the new mods in one go. I can appreciate the wisdom of doing this, however two things then further held up the process:
1) There was a delay by one of the mods accepting the position. I've no idea if this was because they were away or there was some other reason for it.
2) There was a discussion about appointing reserve mods, or possibly a separate mod for a new Budget forum. These discussions slowed everything down a bit as everyone needed to be clear on what we actually wanted and needed. Initially the request was for 2 Politics and 1 Budget mod, but it was decided that it's better not to have sub-forum only mods within Politics.
In the meantime it was decided to go ahead and appoint Blue_Lagoon to take some of the pressure off the existing mods. This was done on 15/11. Due to a bit of a communication mix-up, the other issue was not resolved until 19/11, and we then had to wait until after the weekend to find out that everyone was on board.
So that's the full sequence of events now. I'm not trying to shift blame onto anybody, the whole thing could have been handled better, particularly with regard to communication, from the admins down. It's something we'll look at to ensure that there isn't a repeat of.FWIW Z this is not a reflection on you. Not even close. I've more than a little affection for you on here and RL. You're one of the best actual moderators, never mind admins anyone could wish for as far as application and consistency and dedication. You're also among the few most visible in all of that.
