See below from radiokerry.ie/news. Seems the rumours about the delays are true then! Hopefully they can make up the time. I wonder are the cause of delays due to the poor recent weather or something else?

Tralee bypass running between ten and twelve weeks behind schedule

Construction on the Tralee bypass is running between 10 and 12 weeks behind schedule.
The matter was raised at the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.
It followed a request for an update on the project by Councillor Pat McCarthy.
Construction on the 13.5 kilometre road began last August.
Director of Planning Services with the authority, Michael McMahon, told the meeting the contractors informed him the project is running between 10 and 12 weeks behind schedule.
He said no extension has been granted on the contract and the completion date for the bypass remains March next year.
The bypass is expected to shave 12 minutes off peak time journeys and reduce accidents by 14 per cent.

Sinkage according to my imaginary "Ballinorig Residents" ;)

when should they begin putting the tar on the bypass?

I believe the mainline base course tarmac will begin in October several weeks behind schedule.

Its great that they added a roundabout out by forge. So will that roundabout connect to the road to get to the other side of the bypass near ballinorig?

That new road will run up the hill past the college then down to the new roundabout just above the Jehovah's witness hall in Ballybeggan.

It looks pretty small in the picture but this immense 50 ton 410hp machine has an 8 cylinder 18 litre engine that takes 45Litres of oil to fill the sump and a fuel tank of 817 Litres! Imagine the cost of fuelling it...

Oh right. That be a good idea, reduce the traffic even more. Will there be a couple of fly overs then? Have they said when it likely to finish?

Does anyone know if this is still going ahead next week, there are no signs up informing motorists that the road will be closed next Tuesday when they come back from the long weekend??

There is some debate locally as to weather this will happen, traffic diversions up knockwaddra over the new bridge seems to be one of the issues due to the narrow road and the potentially large volume of traffic.

The road was open this morning, and no sign of it closing anytime soon.

How many new roundabouts are being built altogether linking up the bypass? I spotted one or two along the N69 after you leave Tralee. Though I know the forge one near the ITT but are there one or two more just being built along that road only spotted it today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

There will be two new roundabouts on the N69.

I can confirm the road is closed! Thanks to the lack of signage at Ballyseedy I had to double back and go through town to get to work

This new bridge is just off the ballinorig road seen here looking north from the site entrance, im not sure of its purpose though? I guess its a road bridge, but why? Is it part of the unusual Clash junction?

Yeah, that bridge will carry the Ballinorig road when it's diverted northwards to link up with the Clash Industrial Estate. Methinks it's the aspect of the project which is going to confuse locals the most!

It definatly seems strange, that and the entrance onto the ballinorig road nearer town.

Are there to be two roundabouts very close together only a few feet/yards of each other near ITT/Forge on the N69? A bit odd though I know its to eliminate the volume of traffic from the ITT but seriously two roundabouts only a few feet of each other a bit weird unless they just piling the dirt in one of them?
